After hours of marching, Kael’thas and Lady Vashj stand on a high plateau overlooking the red, barren landscape of Outland.

Prince Kael’thas: What is this desolate place, Vashj?

Lady Vashj: This shattered world is called Outland, young prince. It is all that remains of Draenor, the former homeland of the orcish Horde.

Prince Kael’thas: Amazing, I remember when Khadgar led the Alliance Expedition here, years ago. He almost succeeded in wiping the orcs out for good. In an attempt to escape, Ner’zhul opened a number of massive dimensional gateways, but all they succeeded in doing was tearing the planet apart.

Lady Vashj: Yes. And now, amongst the ruins of this dead world, we have come to find the master.

Prince Kael’thas: Illidan … why here? What could possibly interest him in this barren wasteland?

Lady Vashj: That I do not know. Regardless, we should seek him out quickly.

Prince Kael’thas: Agreed. Actually, I am anxious to meet him again. If he can cure my people of their hunger for magic, I will gladly pledge myself to his service.

Warcraft 3: Frozen Throne - Human Campaign - Chapter 4: The Search for Illidan

After three days of fruitless searching, Prince Kael’thas and Lady Vashj realize they are lost in the barren wilderness of the Hellfire Peninsula.

Prince Kael’thas: :This place is unnerving. We’ve marched for three days and seen no signs of life. Still, I can’t shake the feeling that we’re not alone out here.

Lady Vashj: We aren’t. I caught the scent just as the wind shifted …

Night elves! What could they be doing here?

Prince Kael’thas: :The warden, Maiev, swore to capture Illidan at any cost. She must have brought her warriors here to hunt him! There! Illidan lies chained in that cage! The night elves must be taking him to their stronghold.

Lady Vashj: Then we must rescue him before they reach safety.

MAIN QUEST

The Demon Within

– Use your Heroes to recapture Illidan’s cage

– The cage must not reach the NIght Elf base

Lord Illidan has been captured by the cunning Warden in a cage of magical enchantments. Slay the guardians of the cage and take it from the Night Elves before they reach the safety of their base.

NOTICE – You are only able to control Prince Kael’thas and Lady Vash, while attempting to retrieve Lord Illidan. The rest of your army will automatically engage Maiev’s forces.

Though free from the Warden’s grasp, Illidan remains weak, and the enchantments on the cage cannot be broken easily. You must escort Illidan’s cage to the Blood Elf base, where the protection of Kael’s army will give you time to break the magical locks.

Illidan Stormrage: Lady Vashj, your rescue was most timely. The thought of spending another ten thousand years in Maiev’s prison was not a pleasant one.

Lady Vashj: We could not forsake you, Lord Illidan. But you owe your freedom to them.

Illidan Stormrage: Who are they, Vashj? The young elf looks familiar, but …

Lady Vashj: They call themselves the Blood Elves, my Lord. They are the last mortal descendents of the Highborne who served you long ago. This is Prince Kael’thas. He and his brethren have come to bask in your wisdom—and pledge themselves to your will.

Location: Dimensional Gates at northern Hellfire Peninsula, Outland

Two days later, upon the desolate plains of Outland, Illidan and Prince Kael’thas prepare to assault Magtheridon’s dimensional gateways.

Illidan Stormrage: Long ago, after Draenor’s explosion, a brutal Pit Lord named Magtheridon rallied the surviving orcs and took control of Outland. Since then, his forces have grown strong.

Prince Kael’thas: How, master? If most of the orcs were killed when this world exploded, how has he bolstered his ranks?

Illidan Stormrage: By using the very portals that tore the planet apart. Many of Ner’zhul’s dimensional gates still stand, young prince. Magtheridon lures scores of hapless demons through them daily.

Prince Kael’thas: Then we must seal them permanently.

Illidan Stormrage: Yes. We will seek out each of the gates and I will close them myself. Once they have been sealed, we will move against Magtheridon’s Black Citadel and claim Outland as our own.

A brutal Pit Lord named Magtheridon commands a vast army that pours through the Dimensional Gates daily. Only Illidan has the power to close each Gate by stepping into the Dimensional Nexus. Kael will need to protect Lord Illidan while he works his magic for 3 minutes.

Prince Kael’thas: Be wary, master! More demons are emerging from the gate! Magtheridon’s forces have besieged that Draenei Village! If we drive them back, the Draenei will join us in our fight!

For centuries the Draenei have been battling the Fel Orcs, but in the last hundred years the Draenei have been slowly losing. With the help of Illidan and Kael the Draenei would be able to turn the balance in their favor and rid themselves of the Fel Orcs once and for all.

Akama: I am Akama, Elder Sage of the draenei. Lord Illidan promised to rid us of our ancient enemies in exchange for our loyalty. These cursed orcs serve Magtheridon—a terrible lord whose Black Citadel lies to the west. Under his command, the orcs hunted us to the brink of extinction. But now, with Lord Illidan behind us, we will fight back and retake our ancestral lands.

Lady Vashj: We also serve Illidan, old one.

Akama: Very well, stranger.

Draenei Village

NEW ALLY ACQUIRED

Draenei – The Draenei have joined Illidan’s cause to help rid Outland of Magtheridon’s forces.

Illidan Stormrage: I’ll get to work on this gate, Kael. I’ll need you to defend me just as before.

Prince Kael’thas: Magtheridon has called in his reinforcements! It’s working, Illidan is closing the portal! We’ve got to buy him more time!

Illidan closed the second portal and his forces move along to the next Dimensional Nexus.

Illidan Stormrage: Kael, cover me while I attempt to close this gate.

Prince Kael’thas: The gate is opening! More demons are charging through!

As Kael’thas nears the gate to attack the incoming legion of demons, Kael notices few cages with Draenei prisoners.

Draenei Warrior: You saved our lives. We are yours to command Blood Elf.

Draenei – These Draenei are very effective against their bitter enemies the Fel Orcs.

Prince Kael’thas: Master, the final dimensional gate is surrounded by demons! We’re going to have a serious fight on our hands.

Illidan Stormrage: Do not fear the demons, Kael. In time, they will call you master!

Prince Kael’thas: We’ve done it, master! The dimensional gates are all sealed. There’s no way for Magtheridon to call reinforcements now.

Illidan Stormrage: True, but his standing forces are still considerable. Assaulting his Black Citadel will not be easy, Kael.

Prince Kael’thas: I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Later that day, at the base of Magtheridon’s Black Citadel, Illidan marshals his forces for their final strike.

Inside the Black Citadel one of the Fel Orcs reports to Magtheridon.

Fel Orc Warlock: Our enemies draw near, Lord Magtheridon.

Magtheridon: These upstarts are tiresome gnats, nothing more. The might of Magtheridon cannot be denied! I am the Lord of Outland! Those who dispute my rule will soon regret their folly! HAHAHAH!

Outside the Black Citadel, Illidan rallies his forces to tell the plan of action.

Illidan Stormrage: Magtheridon has grown strong over the years, but he has had few real foes to contend with. He has become decadent and complacent. The boisterous cur cannot match our cunning or our will.

Prince Kael’thas: This will be a glorious battle, master. Though Magtheridon’s forces vastly outnumber ours, your warriors are prepared to fight to the end.

Illidan Stormrage: I am pleased by your people’s zeal, young Kael. Their spirits and powers have been honed in this harsh wilderness. Their courage alone may be enough to …

Lady Vashj: Lord Illidan, new arrivals come to greet you.

Akama: We draenei have fought the orcs and their demon masters for generations. Now, at last, we will end their curse forever. We are yours to command, Lord Illidan.

Illidan Stormrage: As I promised, your people shall have their vengeance, Akama. By night’s end, we will all be drunk with it. Vashj, Kael—give the final order to strike. The hour of wrath has come!

Warcraft 3: Frozen Throne - Human Campaign - Chapter 6 Finale: Kil’jaeden’s Command

Illidan emerges from the upper level of the Black Citadel and walks into the Terrace.  Suddenly a fiery storm cracks across the red sky of Outland.

Prince Kael’thas: What is this, Vashj?  Where did this storm come from?

Lady Vashj: Keep your head down, fool!  Something terrible is drawing near!

Kil’jaeden: Foolish little mongrel.  You failed to destroy the Frozen Throne as I commanded.  And still you thought to hide from me in this forsaken back water!  I thought you to be more cunning, Illidan.

Illidan Stormrage: Kil’jaeden!  I was merely set back.  I was attempting to bolster my forces.  The Lich King will be destroyed.  I promise you!

Kil’jaeden: Indeed?  Still, these servitors you’ve gathered show some promise.  I will give you one last chance, Illidan.  Destroy the Frozen Throne, or face my eternal wrath!

Lady Vashj: The naga are yours to command, Lord Illidan.  Where you go, we follow.

Prince Kael’thas: The blood elves are yours, as well, master.  We will drive the Scourge before us—and shatter the Frozen Throne as you command.

Warcraft 3: Frozen Throne - Undead Campaign - Chapter 1: King Arthas

At the capital city of Lordaeron, near the ruined Palace Gardens, Archimonde’s pet dreadlords discuss their current plans for the Scourge.

Detheroc It’s been months since we last heard from Lord Archimonde. I grow tired of watching over these rotting undead! What are we still doing here?

Balnazaar We were charged with overseeing this land, Detheroc. It is our duty to remain here and ensure that the Scourge is ready for action.

Varimathras True. Though we should have received some kind of orders by now.

In the distance, Lich Kel’Thuzad and Sylvanas watch closely the Dreadlords and their petty chat.

Sylvanas Windrunner: The Legion was defeated months ago. How could they not know?

Kel’Thuzad: Impossible to say. But the longer they remain in command, the more they run the Scourge into the ground.

The Gates outside the Ruins of Lordaeron are knocked furiously until the doors split open.

Sylvanas Windrunner: What? Who could possibly …

King Arthas: Greetings, dreadlords. I should thank you for looking after my kingdom during my absence. However, I won’t be requiring your services any longer.

Varimathras Prince Arthas!

Balnazaar This land is ours. The Scourge belongs to the Legion!

King Arthas: Not anymore, demon. Your masters have been defeated. The Legion is undone. Your deaths will complete the circle.

Detheroc Never! This isn’t over, human.

The Dreadlords teleport away, escaping King Arthas.

Kel’Thuzad: We knew you would return to us, Prince Arthas.

King Arthas: I have returned, lich, but you will now address me as King. This is, after all, my land. Now, we must secure the kingdom by scouring the last remnants of humanity from it!

Kel’Thuzad: But, my king, the humans have begun to abandon their villages. They are fleeing to the canyon passes! If they escape into the mountains, it will be impossible to hunt them all down.

King Arthas: Then we must slaughter them before they escape! Their deaths will be a fitting tribute to Ner’zhul!

Slaughter Human Refugees

– No more than 20 Humans may get through the canyons

There are several bands of Human refugees attempting to escape to the recently captured city of Dalaran. Rout them and burn down their pathetic villages and encampments to show them the folly of trying to escape Arthas’ wrath.

HINT – You control three different sides. Arthas in the bottom, Kel’Thuzad in the top right, and Sylvanas in the bottom right. Villagers can escape through any of these passes.

Kel’Thuzad: Stop them before they reach the pass! We cannot allow the humans to escape!

The next evening, somewhere in the Tirisfal Glades, the banshee Sylvanas arives at the secret meeting.

Balnazaar: Lady Sylvanas. We are pleased that you came.

Sylvanas: How could I not?  For some reason I no longer hear the Lich King’s voice in my head.  My will is my own once again.  You dreadlords seem to know why.

Varimathras: We’ve discovered that the Lich King is losing his power!  As it wanes, so too does his ability to command undead such as you.

Sylvanas Windrunner: And what of King Arthas?  What about his powers?

Balnazaar: Though his runeblade, Frostmourne, carries powerful enchantments, Arthas’ own powers will fade in time.  It is inevitable.

Sylvanas Windrunner: You seek to overthrow him, and you want my help to do it.

Detheroc: The Legion may be defeated, but we are the Nathrezim!  We’ll not let some upstart human get the best of us!  Arthas must fall!

Balnazaar: The lich, Kel’Thuzad, is far too loyal to betray his master.  But you, on the other hand …

Sylvanas Windrunner: Hate him.  I have my own reasons for seeking vengeance.  Arthas murdered my people and turned me into this … monstruosity.  I may take part in your bloody coup, but I will do so in my own way.

Balnazaar: I, for one, do not trust her.  Her heart is still elven.  She will never side with us.

Varimathras: Don’t be too hasty.  She has great spirit, but her hatred for Arthas will ultimately serve our cause.

Detheroc: Agreed.  Well, if that’s settled—let the festivities commence.

Warcraft 3: Frozen Throne - Undead Campaign - Chapter 2: The Flight from Lordaeron

Location: Inside Ruins of Lordaeron Capital City, Tirisfal Glades

The next morning, on the palace grounds, King Arthas and his majordomo, Kel’Thuzad, discuss the Lich King’s dire warnings.

King Arthas: Yes. With my powers drained, I can barely command my own warriors. The Lich King warned me that if I didn’t reach Northrend soon, all could be lost.

Kel’Thuzad: Fear not, my king. Everything has been prepared for your departure. The ships are waiting at the coast and—Assassins! It’s a trap!

Balnazaar: You should never have returned, human. Weakened as you are, we have assumed control over the majority of your warriors. It seems your reign was short lived.

Kel’Thuzad: There are too many of them, my king! Flee—escape from the city. I’ll find my own way out and meet you in the wilderness.

King Arthas: All right, lich. Good luck.

The King’s Exit

– Bring Arthas to the city exit

– Arthas must survive

With the Dreadlords’ forces closing in, Arthas must make a quick retreat from the city.

Necromancer: Our master, Kel’Thuzad, sent us to aid you. Our new skeletal mages will make short work of the rebels.

King Arthas: Very good. We’ll need to move quickly and find any others still loyal to me. We’re going to need all the support we can get.

Crypt Fiend: By Nerub, the rebels nearly had us, King Arthas.

King Arthas: I would not leave my subjects to be slaughtered by this rabble.

Crypt Fiend: Then we shall stand by you till the end.

King Arthas: I have need of your abilities, little Shade. Will you help me?

Shade: I live only to serve you, King Arthas.

King Arthas: I have need of you warriors. Come with me. The dreadlords’ guards are stationed outside that armory. If we can fight our way past them, we could commandeer the meat wagons held inside.

Meat Wagon Surprise

– Kill the armory guards

– Rescue the Meat Wagons

The towers are proving quite difficult to get through without heavy casualties. Break into the armory and seize the Meat Wagons there to quicken the destruction of the towers.

King Arthas: I call upon your loyalty. Will you serve me? Finally some firepower. These will help us with the main gate’s defenses! You there—will you not stand by your king? These piles of corpses will serve us well. We can reanimate the bodies and bolster our forces as we move.

Bloodfeast: Small king no escape. Slay! Rend! Feast!

Just outside the Castle of Lordaeron … four massive Scourge Abominations stand on the way to freedom.

King Arthas: We have no time for this! We must find our way out quickly!

Banshees arrive to help King Arthas get rid of the Abominations.

King Arthas: You have my thanks, ladies. But where is your mistress? Where is Sylvanas?

Banshee: She sent us to find ou, great King. We’ve come to escort you across the river. Once we cross it, we’ll take refuge in the wilderness.

Warcraft 3: Frozen Throne - Undead Campaign - Chapter 3 Interlude: Sylvanas Farewell

Moments later, in Tirisfal Glades, King Arthas and his banshee escorts stop to regain their strength.

Banshee: This is the place, sisters. We’ll rest here, great king.

King Arthas: Why here? We’ve got to find Kel’Thuzad before we—Aarrghh!

The Lich King: You have been deceived! Come to my side at once! Obey!

King Arthas: What is … happening here?—- Sylvanas!

Sylvanas Windrunner: You walked right into this one, Arthas. It’s time to even the scales.

King Arthas: Traitor! What have you done to me?

Sylvanas Windrunner: It’s a special poisoned arrow I made just for you. The paralysis you’re experiencing now is but a fraction of the agony you’ve caused me.

King Arthas: Finish me, then.

Sylvanas Windrunner: A quick death … like the one you gave me? No. You’re going to suffer as I did. Thanks to my arrow, you can’t even run. Give my regards to hell, you son of a bitch.

Kel’Thuzad: Back, you mindless ones! You shall not fall today, my king.

Sylvanas Windrunner: This isn’t over, Arthas! I’ll never stop hunting you!

At the northern shores of Tirisfal Glades, the Undead Ships prepare to sail off through the Great Sea toward Northrend.

Kel’Thuzad: The effects of her arrow will wear off in time.  All the preparations for your journey to Northrend have been made.

King Arthas: You have been a loyal friend, Kel’Thuzad.  I don’t know what the future holds, or if I’ll even return, but I want you to watch over this land.  See to it that my legacy endures.

Kel’Thuzad: I shall. King Arthas, I shall.

Two days later, at her base camp in the newly formed Plaguelands, Sylvanas ponders her newfound freedom and her future as one of hte cursed undead.

Banshee: You seem troubled, mistress.

Sylvanas Windrunner: Aren’t you, sister? Only days ago, we were the Lich King’s slaves. We existed only to slaughter in his name. And now we are … free.

Banshee: I don’t understand, mistress. I thought you’d be overjoyed.

Varimathras: Greetings, Lady Sylvanas. My brothers and I appreciate the role you played in overthrowing Arthas. I’ve come to offer you a formal invitation to join our new order.

Sylvanas Windrunner: Varimathras. My only interest was in seeing Arthas dead. I have no time for your petty politics or power mongering.

Varimathras: Careful, milady. It would be unwise to incur our wrath. We are the future of these … Plaguelands. You can either join us and rule or be cast aside.

Sylvanas Windrunner: I lived as a slave long enough, Dreadlord. I won’t relinquish my freedom by shackling myself to you fools!

Varimathras: So be it. Our reply will come soon.

Varimathras has been dispatched here to lure Sylvanas to the three Dreadlords’ cause. Sylvanas has her own plans for Arthas and will take Lordaeron for herself without the help of these pathetic Demons. Destroy Varimathras and his Undead Army.

HINT – Deactivate Curse to conserve your Banshee’s mana for Possession

Banshee: Mistress, we’re under attack!

HINT – Sylvanas can auto-cast Black Arrow on enemy units. If a unit dies while affected by Black Arrow, a Dark Minion will spawn from the corpse to serve her. Sylvanas can use Silence to prevent enemies in a target area from casting spells.

After defeating this wave of attacks, Sylvanas leaves the camp to explore the area for resources to counter the Dreadlord Varimathras’ forces taking a cadre of Banshees with her to possess unsuspecting victims. Their first target were Ogres

Sylvanas Windrunner: These curs were hardly worth the effort.

Banshee: Perhaps, mistress. But there are more of them out there. If we could lure them to our side, they would be a great help against Varimathras’ Forces.

Sylvanas Windrunner: How very clever of you, sister. Possessing these lowly creatures could turn the tide in our favor! We’ll start with their leader. Once we have him, subverting his warriors will be child’s play.

Mug’thol the Warlord is preparing his Ogres for a battle in the hills. Find Mug’thol and possess his soul so that his war preparations are not wasted on the wrong enemy.

Three weeks later, King Arthas’ ragged fleet drops anchor off the icy southern coasts of Northrend.

King Arthas: Northrend. It feels like a lifetime since I was last here. Something out there is threatening the Lich King. We must reach Icecrown quickly.

Necromancer: My king, we’ll need to establish a base here first, but this island is nearly devoid of resources.

King Arthas: What the—

Without warning three Dragonhawks fly above Arthas’ party, and land nearby.

King Arthas: They look like high elves! What are they doing here?

Blood Elf: Prince Arthas, we are the blood elves! We have sworn to avenge the ghosts of Quel’Thalas. This dead land … will be cleansed!

King Arthas: Northrend belongs to the Scourge, elf! You made a terrible mistake by coming here. Slay them!

The blood elves seemed to be a bit of a challenge to Arthas. However, a new unknown ally arrived to offer Arthas assistance.

Anub’arak: Onward for the Scourge! Slay them in Ner’zhul’s name!

King Arthas: Thanks for the assistance, mighty one.

Anub’arak: The Lich King sent me to aid you, death knight. I am Anub’arak, ancient king of Azjol-Nerub.

King Arthas: I welcome your aid, Anub’arak, but we have little time for pleasantries. We must reach Icecrown immediately! They must have a base around here somewhere.

The Landing

– Destroy the Blood Elves’ island stronghold

The Blood Elves are heavily encamped all around the shores of Northrend. You must lay siege to their island stronghold farther off the coast and take its resources for your own.

King Arthas: These elves are pathetic. It’s no wonder we destroyed their homeland so easily.

As Arthas beheld the razed Blood Elf camp, a familiar figure approached Arthas.

King Arthas: Prince Kael’thas. I haven’t seen you since … You lead these elves?

Prince Kael’thas: This group, at least. What you faced here was merely a scouting force. Defeating Lord Illidan’s army will be far more difficult.

King Arthas: Illidan? He’s behind this invasion?

Prince Kael’thas: He is. Our forces are vast, arthas. Even now, they march upon the Icecrown Glacier. You’ll never make it in time to save your precious Lich King. Consider this payment for Quel’Thalas … and other insults.

King Arthas: Aarrghh …

The Lich King: Make haste! My enemies draw near! Our time is almost spent!

Anub’arak: Are you well, death knight?

King Arthas: My powers are weakening, but I’ll be all right. He’s right. We’ll never reach the glacier in time!

Anub’arak: There is another route we might take, death knight. The ancient, shattered kingdom of Azjol-Nerub lies deep below us. Though it has fallen on dark times, it could provide us a direct shortcut to the glacier.

King Arthas: We have little choice. Lead on, Anub’arak.

Breakthrough

– Slay the guardians

Now that you have sufficient resources, you need only break through the pass to Azjol-Nerub. Its guardians are vicious and care only for slaughter and bloodshed. Slay them, and the way through the pass is clear.

Anub’arak: There is a dragon that lives in the hills nearby. The creature may hold artifacts that could protect us on our march.

Dragon Hoard

– Slay the Dragon Sapphiron

The ancient Dragon Sapphiron lies within the nearby caves. There are rumors that he guards a wondrous hoard of powerful items. Slay the Dragon and take them for your own.

Sapphiron: You dare enter my lair? I am Sapphiron, ancient servant of Malygos the Spell-Weaver! Explain yourselves!

King Arthas: Sorry we don’t have time to chat, great wyrm. We’ve come to murder you and steal whatever artifacts you’ve hoarded over the centuries.

Sapphiron: Honesty. How refreshing. None may challenge Sapphiron and live!

After a lengthy fight between King Arthas and Anub’arak against the blue dragon Sapphiron, the ancient dragon fell defeated.

King Arthas: At least I still have enough power to do this.

Anub’arak is surprised by what Arthas next did. Using what power he still had, King Arthas awoke the slain Sapphiron with necromancy, transforming him into an Undead Frost Wyrm.

Anub’arak: Most impressive. But you need to conserve your energies, death knight. We have a long road ahead of us.

Dragon Hoard

King Arthas: Seismic tremors. What tortures this land?

Necromancer: The earthquakes have shatterd a glacial wall and revealed a new waterway! Perhaps our fleet can use this to our advantage.

Using the new waterway, they set sail and continue their journey inward toward the location of the entrance to the underground kingdom of Azjol-Nerub. A new earthquake breaks a wall of ice, uncovering a Tuskarr encamptment.

King Arthas: Another earthquake. This can’t be good.

After slaying the Tuskarr encampment and gathering their resources they continued their journey toward the Guardians: Blue Dragons, drakes and dragonspawns; which are in their way.

Breakthrough

King Arthas: You’re certain we can reach the glacier through these tunnels?

Anub’arak: Nothing is certain, death knight. The ruins will be perilous, but it’s worth the risk.

King Arthas: All right. Let’s go.

Warcraft 3: Frozen Throne - Undead Campaign - Chapter 5: Dreadlords Fall

At that same moment, back in the Plaguelands, Sylvanas and her loyal minions plan their next surgical strike against the dreadlords’ power.

Sylvanas Windrunner: You’ve done well, Varimathras. You’ve led us straight to Detheroc’s stronghold. But tell me, who are those humans?

Varimathras: Detheroc used his telepathy to enslave a top-ranking human warlord. I believe his name was Garabon or Gilithos or something. Human names all sound the same to me. Instead of stamping it out, Detheroc has taken control of the last pocket of human resistance. They maintain their own army wihin the keep.

Sylvanas Windrunner: Your brother is more clever than I thought. His defenses are considerable.

Varimathras: Yes, and with this paltry force you’ve mustered, a direct assault on his walls would be suicide!

Sylvanas Windrunner: I have no intention of assaulting the walls.

Varimathras: Then let’s go before he—

Sylvanas Windrunner: My banshees will possess those hapless humans. We’ll use them to open the gates for us.

Varimathras: You realize we’ll have only a short amount of time before he discovers what we’re up to?

Sylvanas Windrunner: Of course. If we strike quickly enough, Detheroc will never know what hit him.

Banshee: Whom do you serve, human?

Footman: The Dark Lady. I am hers to command.

Necromancer: The patrol has returned! Open the gates!

Sylvanas Windrunner: Ready yourselves. The moment is upon us! Now, my warriors—strike! We can attack either of the two bases with impunity but it’s only a matter of time before the other is alerted to our presence.

– Destroy the sleeping enemy forces

Detheroc and Garithos’ forces slumber, giving you the opportunity to strike their bases without fear of reinforcements. Act quickly and decimate as much of the enemy as possible before the entire stronghold is alerted to your presence.

Detheroc cowers within the walls of the city, believing his pet Human, Garithos, will keep him safe. Show him the foolishness of trusting others to guard him by crushing them both.

Sylvanas Windrunner: Spare no one! The dreadlords’ forces must not escape! You must be the human in command of this rabble.

Grand Marshal Garithos: I am Garithos. I have sworn to defend the master with my life! Hold the line, you dogs! Fight on!

Varimathras: We must hurry. Time is running out!

Sylvanas Windrunner: Spare no one! The dreadlords’ forces must not escape! The humans’ destruction gives me a certain amoount of satisfaction. But Detheroc is the true threat here. It’s not over till he lies dead at my feet.

Varimathras: We’re out of time! Both bases have been alerted to our presence. We’ve got to bolster our defenses before they launch their counterattack!

Grand Marshal Garithos: The spell has been lifted. Is the nightmare finally over?

Sylvanas Windrunner: Stand down, humans. I have no quarrel with you.

Grand Marshal Garithos: What is it you want, elf witch?

Sylvanas Windrunner: We have a common enemy. The last dreadlord, Balnazaar, currently controls the capital city of your kingdom. If you help me kill him, I’ll see to it hat you get your lands back.

Grand Marshal Garithos: Why should we trust you? You’re part of the Scourge that drove us out in the first place!

Sylvanas Windrunner: Not anymore. My only interest here is vengeance.

Grand Marshal Garithos: Very well. I’ll rally what’s left of my forces and meet you outside the gates.

Varimathras: Come now, you have no intention of giving them their lands back.

Sylvanas Windrunner: Of course not. The humans are simply a means to an end.

Varimathras: You sound more like one of us with every passing day, my lady.

Warcraft 3: Frozen Throne - Undead Campaign - Chapter 6: A New Power in Lordaeron

Location: Ruins of Lordaeron Capital City, Tirisfal Glades

The next day, on the outskirts of Lordaeron’s capital city, Sylvanas and her allies prepare to lay siege to Balnazaar’s formidable defenses.

Varimathras: The capital city is heavily defended. Balnazaar is no fool, my lady. This battle can be won only through attrition.

Grand Marshal Garithos: What’s the matter, demon? Are you afraid?

Varimathras: Watch your tongue, human dog. Your hollow bravado does not impress—

Sylvanas Windrunner: Stand down, gentlemen! Save your anger for Balnazaar. Garithos, I’ll lead my forces in a frontal assault while you attack the city from the rear. Give the order. Let the attack commence.

Balnazaar

– Destroy Balnazaar’s purple base

Balnazaar, the most powerful of the Dreadlords, holds Lordaeron in an iron grip. Only with the help of Garithos’ army can Sylvanas hope to overthrow the mighty Dreadlord’s rule and bring him to his knees, thus establishing her freedom from the Scourge once and for all.

HINT – You are able to control Garithos and his army of humans

Footman: Lord Garithos, our scouts have found the missing band of dwarves! They appear to be lost in the wilderness nearby.

Grand Marshal Garithos: Those brainless dwarves are almost more trouble than they’re worth! However, we’ll need them on the front lines. I’ll have to lead them myself.

Ironforge Dwarves

– Locate the missing Dwarves

Unlike the rest of Garithos’ troops, the Dwarven contingent seems to have gone astray during the march to Lordaeron. If they could be located, their assistance in laying siege to the city would be invaluable.

Varimathras: Balnazaar’s forces are advancing!

As Sylvanas and Garithos’ forces get their way through Balnazaar’s defenses, they spot a massive Frost Wyrm.

Grand Marshal Garithos: The enemy is advancing! We may need help here!

HINT – Rescue the dwarves to gain better defenses against air attacks.

In their way to reach the lost Dwarves, Garithos and his forces encounter a group of Kobolds.

Grand Marshal Garithos: Here they come, boys! Stand your ground.

As they defeat some Kobolds, they find cages with Dwarves inside. Garithos frees them and they lead Garithos to the remaining Lost Dwarves beyond the hill.

Grand Marshal Garithos: Can’t you idiots follow simple orders? There’s a war on, and you louts are off having a picnic! Get this column rolling immediately!

Rifleman: Right away. Lord Garithos! Move’em out, lads! They don’t pay us enough to put up with that asshole.

Ironforge Dwarves

UNITS NOW AVAILABLE

Dwarves – You may now build a Workshop. This building offers training and upgrades for Riflemen, Mortar Teams, and Siege Engines.

HINT – Garithos’ Siege Engines have the Barrage upgrade, which gives them more effective firepower against enemy flyers.

The Dwarves formed positions and marched behind Garithos, toward Balnazaar’s defenses.

Balnazaar: Ah, my wayward pet. Garithos, I see you’ve grown a spine since we last met.

Grand Marshal Garithos: Your mind powers tricked me before, demon, but never again! You and I have a serious score to settle.

Balnazaar: You vile traitors, will suffer for this outrage!

Varimathras: Strike for the Dark Lady! For Sylvanas! Victory draws near! Hasten the attack!

Sylvanas Windrunner: Push the attack! Their defenses are weakening!

Grand Marshal Garithos: Cut them to shreds! For Lordaeron! Stand fast, my warriors! We’re not out of this yet!

Sylvanas Windrunner: Storehouses such as this hold many of Lordaeron’s treasures. Seek them out, and we’ll claim whatever artifacts they hold.

Sylvanas and Garithos’ forces kill hordes of Lordaeron City Mutants and War Golems to reach the Storehouses. Among the treasures is the Kelen’s Dagger of Escape(teleports the Hero a short distance) and other artifacts.

Banshee: Mistress, we’ve discovered another storehouse! It may hold artifacts tha could aid us!

Among the artifacts is the Ring of the Archmagi(a powerful artifact with a wondrous gem inset, which increases Strength, Agility and Intelligence by 3 and gives to nearby friendly units a bonus to mana regeneration); and the Crown of Kings(+5 bonus to Agility, strength and Intelligence).

Sylvanas Windrunner: Where are you, Balnazaar? Afraid to face me?

Balnazaar: Now, feel the wrath of the Legion!

Sylvanas Windrunner: Let’s see. I’ve made one of your brothers my servant and tore the other to bloody shreds. I wonder what your fate holds Balnazaar?

Balnazaar: Come, you burning devils! Balnazaar calls! Heed me, demons! Devour these traitorous fools! These Plaguelands are mine!

Banshee: Mistress Sylvanas, we’ve found yet another storehouse! It likely holds priceless magical treasures!

Among the artifacts found are the Diamond of Summoning(Teleports 12 of the player’s units within the targeted area to the location of the Hero when used); and the Mask of Death (Recovers hit points equal to 50% of the attack damage dealt to an enemy).

Sylvanas Windrunner: Push the attack! Their defenses are weakening!

Varimathras: Balnazaar must be somewhere!

Sylvanas Windrunner: It’s over, Balnazaar. Varimathras?

Without further hesitation, Varimathras slashed at Balnazaar and slew him.

Grand Marshal Garithos: There, your business is done. Now, I want you wretched animals out of my city before I—

Sylvanas Windrunner: Kill him, too.

Varimathras: Gladly.

Sylvanas Windrunner: The capital city is ours, but we are no longer part of the Scourge. From here on out, we shall be known as the Forsaken. We will find our own path in this world, dreadlord … and slaughter anyone who stands in our way.

Warcraft 3: Frozen Throne - Undead Campaign - Chapter 7: Into the Shadow Web Caverns

At that same moment in Northrend, King Arthas and Anub’arak march into the dark, forgotten halls of Azjol-Nerub.

King Arthas: We’ve been walking for hours. We’ve got to quicken our pace. The Lich King is defenseless without us.

Anub’arak: I left many of my warriors at Icecrown before I came to find you, death knight. They will hold the line for as long as they are able.

King Arthas: Tell me, where are all of your people? Shouldn’t there be nerubians around here—undead or otherwise?

Anub’arak: I’ve been wondering about that myself. Something must have driven them all off.

Dwarf: We did, ye rotting bastards! We been watching ye all along!

King Arthas: Muradin’s dwarves! Impossible … Doesn’t anyone stay dead anymore?

Dwarf: We’ve been wandering this forsaken land ever since you killed Muradin and left us to rot, Arthas. Our leader, Baelgun, led us into the ruined city to survive. But there’s no way we’re letting you in!

King Arthas: We have no time for these games! Sapphiron, attack!

Some Dwarves are slain by Sapphiron’s Ice-breath, while others set to flee away.

King Arthas: Well done, mighty Sapphiron. I wish we could take you with us, but the confines of the dark earth are no place for you.

Anub’arak: The Lich King’s time is running short—we must hurry.

MAIN QUEST

The Old Kingdom

– Locate the entrance to the Old Kingdom

– Kill Baelgun

– Bring the Blood Key to the Old Kingdom Lock

– Arthas and Anub’arak must survive

Deep within the tunnels of ice lies the Old Kingdom. Only through its ancient doors will you be able to find your way to the Frozen Throne. Let nothing stop you from finding the Old Kingdom’s entrance.

Dwarf: For Khaz Modan!

Rifleman: A pint for every ghoul ye blast! Set off the charges! Blow the bridge before they get across!

King Arthas: No! Stop them before they—

Baelgun: That was for Muradin! Now you’ll never get across!

Anub’arak: There are other passages through the labyrinth, death knight. We will find another way.

King Arthas: These nerubians are your kin. Why are they hostile to us?

Anub’arak: Many of us who fell during the War of the Spider were brought back to serve the Lich King. These warriors, however, never died. Foolishly they still fight to liberate Nerub from the Scourge.

King Arthas: Gold! We should take this with us!

Find the Gold Stashes

– Find the five gold stashes (1 of 5 found)

Gold Coins have been hidden throughout these underground chambers. Find them for an increase of your gold coffers. This would be useful the next time you require gold to sustain and build your forces.

King Arthas: This place looks like an old storage silo. It’s a dead end, Anub’arak.

Anub’arak: There must be a hidden passage somewhere. We nerubians were crafty engineers in our time. This is an ancient nerubian hoarding cell. We kept most of our treasures hidden in chambers like this. The passage to the lower depths lies just beyond this room.

King Arthas: Great. As long as we’re here, we can take some of these items with us.

NOTICE – The Spike Trap has been activated.

Rifleman: Don’t even try it, ye bastard! That there treasure belongs to the dwarves!

Anub’arak: This treasure belongs to the Lich King, little creature! We his servants, shall take what we will.

King Arthas: More gold! This might help us later!

Dwarf: This is for Muradin, ye bastards!

Rifleman: It’s them—blast’em! Shoot anything that shuffles or skitters!

Arthas and Anub’arak set off the dynamite barrels surrounding the Dwarves instead of fighting directly, blowing the Dwarves to smithereens.

King Arthas: More gold! Take all you can carry!

Baelgun: I remember you, evil Prince. You’re the one that killed poor Muradin!

King Arthas: Get over it already.

Baelgun: I won’t let ye through this door, traitor. The recent quakes have awakened dark things under the ice … ancient, horrid things. We’ve vowed to keep them locked where they are.

King Arthas: We’ll take our chances, dwarf. We’re going through that door one way or another.

Baelgun is slain by Arthas and Anub’arak, and loot the Blood Key from him to open the gate to the Old Kingdom.

King Arthas: The air smells awful here. Something doesn’t feel right.

Anub’arak: If the dwarf’s story was true, there’s no telling what awaits us in the darkness. This stair well leads into the heart of the old nerubian empire. We must be cautious.

King Arthas: By all means. You first.

Warcraft 3: Frozen Throne - Undead Campaign - Chapter 7 - part 2: The Forgotten Ones

The Old Kingdom

– Locate the exit of the Old Kingdom

– Arthas and Anub’arak must survive

The ice cracks, and horrific noises erupt from the depths of the Old Kingdom. Though the horrors within this place are fierce you must fight your way through to the exit. Let nothing stand in your way.

Anub’arak: Wait—towers on either side are rigged to fire bolts of frost. This hall way is a deathtrap.

King Arthas: Can’t we disable them?

Anub’arak: The circular hatch in the far wall is an aqueduct plug. If we can open it, the water might flood the firing mechanisms and disable the entire trap.

King Arthas: Gold! We should take this with us!

Ahead, Arthas and Anub’arak reach a icy chamber with few living Nerubians.

King Arthas: Who, me?

Anub’arak: He is referring to me, death knight. These nerubians will stop at nothing to destroy us!

After slaying all the nerubian spiders, in the back of the chamber is discovered the missing Crypt Fiends that were fleeing from the Dwarves. They were captured by the Nerubian Spiders as the Dwarves closed the gate to the Inner Kingdom behind them.

Crypt Fiend: Thank you, great one. The rebel spiders captured my comrades as well! They’re being held in a nearby chamber. Release them, and they will be yours to command.

Rescue the Crypt Fiends

The rebel spiders captured several Crypt Fiends. They’re being held in a nearby chamber. Release them, and they will be yours to command.

As they approach the next chamber, the Nerubians rise the alert!

Nerubian: Slay the intruders! Death to the servants of Ner’zhul!

Anub’arak: The eggs of our young are incubated within those breeding pods. There’s no telling how many vicious hatchlings they hold.

King Arthas: You were right—they’re definetely hostile! We’ve got to destroy the breeding pods!

Anub’arak: We could also seal the doors to shut the hatchlings in!

After slaying the nerubians and sealing the hatchlings behind door mechanisms, Arthas, Anub’arak and the rescued cadre of Crypt Fiends go on their way through the Inner Kingdom toward the exit. When suddenly, tendrils came off the floor …

King Arthas: What the hell are they?

Anub’arak: They are the horrors the dwarves spoke of. I thought they were only legends.

King Arthas: What?

Anub’arak: They are the Faceless Ones …

They destroyed as many tendrils as possible, only to find the Faceless Ones holding prisoner the remaining cadre of Crypt Fiends.

Rescue the Crypt Fiends

They ran through the corridor, knowing the exit just lied beyond the next chamber, when suddenly, Anub’arak stopped in disbelief, observing what lied before them.

Anub’arak: It cannot be … A Forgotten One. Look to your defenses, death knight! Fight as you’ve never fought before!

After a very long and hard battle, Arthas, Anub’arak and their Crypt Fiend forces destroyed the horrid Forgotten One. Immediately, hordes of Faceless Ones came out of the depths to chase them.

Anub’arak: We cannot take them all! Hurry, death knight—up the stair well! Hurry!

Warcraft 3: Frozen Throne - Undead Campaign - Chapter 7 - part 3: Ascent to the Upper Kingdom

Location: Entrance to the Upper Kingdom of Azjol-Nerub, Northrend

 

Moments later, at the entrance to the Upper Kingdom …

Anub’arak: Not far. We have entered the Upper Kingdom. The exit should lead us to the base of the glacier itself. However, there are still hidden traps and pitfalls to account for.

An unexpected earthquake caused the ceiling to crash down, completely separating King Arthas from his forces.

King Arthas: Take cover!

Anub’arak: Arthas!

King Arthas: The entire passage collapsed! There’s no time to dig through this. I’ll have to move quickly and find my own way out! Hopefully Anub’arak and the others survived.

MAIN QUEST

Escape the Caverns

– Escape before the timer expires (00:09:59 before Cavern Collapses)

– Arthas must survive

The death of the Forgotten One has stirred the depths of the Old Kingdom, and it has begun to crumble in on itself. You must quickly make your way out of the cavern before it collapses upon you.

Arthas is now alone and swamped by countless traps that require puzzle-solving and finding mechanisms or triggers to deactivate. As he progresses through the Upper Kingdom, he finds more Faceless Ones. However, an orb of Darkness grants the wielder the ability to create Dark Minions upon attacking enemies, giving an edge to Arthas.

King Arthas: I’ll be singed if I get too close to those flames. Hmm, I will need this gold for when I reach the glacier.

Find the Gold Stashes

King Arthas: More of the nerubians’ blasted mechanisms! I’ll have to time this.

Blue flame colums rise from the ground, turning on and off in sequences. Glowing tiles on the ground mark the mechanisms that disengage the trigger of the flames in different rows.

Just beyond the tunnel …

King Arthas: Another quake! I must find a way across this strange obstacle.

The next obstacle is many blocks that compound the ground. However, each tile moves up and down ever few seconds creating a laberynth. The Tiles may be on a level zero angle, or may get you under or above ground zero. Finding the correct sequence may allow you passage across the room.

Reaching the other side, the wall suddenly crashes down revealing a digged tunnel. Anub’arak and five Crypt Fiends came through it.

King Arthas: Anub’arak! You made it!

Anub’arak: I see now why the Lich King chose you as his champion, death knight. few men could have survived this labyrinth alone. Another earthquake. We must hurry, death knight.

WARNING – Two minutes remaining

King Arthas: Something’s breaking through! Defensive positions!

Anub’arak: They’re blocking the way to the exit! We’ll have to fight our way through them to reach it! We’re running out of time. We must find the exit! Now, quickly—head through that door! The exit to the surface lies just beyond!

King Arthas: It’ll be good to see the sun again.

Anub’arak: Remember—Illidan and the true battle still await us in the world above. Hopefully, our trek through the dark earth bought us the precious time we needed.

Hours later, near the base of the Icecrown Glacier, King Arthas and Anub’arak finally reach the main stronghold of the Scourge.

King Arthas: We’ve made it, Anub’arak. Our forces are already assembled and waiting.

Necromancer: Greetings, King Arthas. You’ve arrived just in time. Illidan’s naga and blood elf forces have taken up positions at the base of the glacier and—

King Arthas: Aarrghh …

The Lich King: Arthas, my champion. You have come at last.

King Arthas: Master?

The Lich King: There is a fracture in my prison, the Frozen Throne, and my energies are seeping from it. That is why your powers have diminished.

King Arthas: But how?

The Lich King: The runeblade, Frostmourne, was once locked inside the Throne as well. I thrust it from the ice so that it would find its way to you … and then lead you to me. And so it has. For now we face a grave danger. My creator, the demonlord Kil’jaeden, sent his agents here to destroy me. If they should reach the Frozen Throne before you, all will be lost. The Scourge will be undone. Now hurry! I will grant you all the power I can spare.

King Arthas: I saw another vision of the Lich King. He has restored my powers! I know now what I must do. It’s time to end the game … once and for all.
