I just got my review copy of World of Warcraft: Wolfheart. Many thanks to Ayelet from Gallery Books. I will post a review and some details soon.

As a non-plot sneak peek of what to find in the book, it contains two images in the last pages. One image has a very fierce-looking King Varian Wrynn in a pose you would only find in a comic book with a spectral image of Goldrinn around him. Varian is accompanied by four Worgen. All of them seem to be in a pack formation. Interesting.

The other image by artist Horley is enigmatic. I don’t recognize the hooded Night Elf with a moon brooch holding together his cape. He might be a new Highborne character — the hooded figure turns out to be Jarod Shadowsong!!!. This book will not only introduce the original off-panel summit where the Worgen are invited into the Alliance, but will also provide an official background story for the inclusion of the mage class in the Cataclysm expansion with the Highborne. We got to see some of the story in-game pre-Cataclysm. In this image, the Night Elf is carrying a female Night Elf on his hands. That’s a beautiful artwork.

As has become standard, this book also contains a “Further Reading” section with references to several books, comic books, manga and other canon material such as the official World of Warcraft website’s Leader Short Stories section used as continuity for Wolfheart.

World of Warcraft: Wolfheart by New York Times Best Selling Author: Richard A. Knaak is on sale on September 13, 2011. Pre-order World of Warcraft: Wolfheart in Hardcover, or Kindle.

Don’t have Kindle? No prob. There is a Kindle PC app so you can read the PDF in your computer. There’s also a Kindle Mac app.

Recently, I also reported the World of Warcraft: Wolfheart is coming out as an eAudio with special effects by Blizzard Entertainment Audio Team. I will post when I get further details of who is the narrator, and when it is available for order / download. For now you can pre-order the eAudio version at the publisher website. Stay tuned for the Wolfheart review, and seems my copy of StarCraft: Ghost Spectres is in transit (that one at a later time).

In the meantime, here is the book description printed on the back of the book and an eAudio / Audiobook sample.

Description

In the wake of the Cataclysm, conflict has engulfed every corner of Azeroth. Hungering for more resources amid the turmoil, the Horde has pressed into Ashenvale to feed its burgeoning war machine. There, acting warchief Garrosh Hellscream has employed a brutal new tactic to conquer the region and crush its night elf defenders, a move that will cripple the Alliance’s power throughout the … World of Warcraft.

Unaware of the disaster brewing in Ashenvale, the night elves’ legendary leaders, High Prietess Tyrande Whisperwind and Archdruid Malfurion Stormrage, conduct a summit near Darnassus in order to vote the proud worgen of Gilneas into the Alliance. However, resentment of Gilneas and its ruler, Genn Greymane, runs deep in Stormwind’s King Varian Wrynn. His refusal to forgive Genn for closing his nation off from the rest of the world years ago endangers more than just the summit: it threatens to unravel the Alliance itself.

Varian’s animosity is only one of many unsettling developments in Darnassus. An uneasiness creeps over the once-immortal night elves as the first of them fall victim to the infirmities of age. While they cope with their mortality, tensions flare over the reintroduction of the Highbrone, formerly the highest caste of night elf nobility, into their society. Many night elves are unable to pardon the Highborne for the destruction unleashed on Azeroth millennia ago by their reckless use of magic.

When a murdered Highborne is discovered on the outskirts of Darnassus, Malfurion and Tyrande move to stop further bloodshed and unrest by appointing one of the night elves’ most cunning and skilled agents to find the killer: the renowned warden Maiev Shadowsong. Yet with all that is transpiring in Darnassus, the Alliance might be powerless to stop the relentless new warchief Garrosh from seizing the whole of Ashenvale.
