Blizzplanet contributor Danny Perschonok interviewed Mike Stackpole to discuss his recent novel tie-in World of Warcraft: Vol’jin, Shadows of the Horde.
The interview contained a combination of questions submitted by Scrolls of Lore fans and Blizzplanet.
Cesar (Blizzplanet-ES) informed me io9 broke the news that Legendary Entertainment director Duncan Jones has revealed a teaser trailer of the Warcraft Film. No one has been able to find a video as it took everyone by surprise.
Blizzplanet correspondent David Frazier interviewed Micky Neilson at the 2013 San Diego Comic Con on Friday, July 19th to forward a combination of SOL community and Blizzplanet questions about licensed products revealed at the Blizzard Licensing Panel, and about products that weren’t mentioned at the panel.
Blizzplanet correspondent David Frazier recorded video of the Blizzard Licensing Panel led by Kat Hunter (host), Chris Metzen, Micky Neilson, Nick Carpenter, Cory Stockton. — Thursday, July 18th 2013
Senior E-Commerce Manager Kat Hunter revealed the list of prices for the San Diego Comic Con exclusive Blizzard Licensed merchandise.
VP of Art and Cinematic Development Nick Carpenter tweeted the SDCC website updated the SDCC Exclusive merchandise page. The Funko Mini-Sylvanas POP Vinyl costs $18 and the Funko Baneling and the Zergling cost $35.
Something that totally got me off-guard is that there is no such thing as a Baneling Plush Toy, and a Zergling Plush Toy. This thing is awesome. The Zergling Plush transforms into a Baneling by opening a zipper and pulling out a hidden skin that you wrap on top of the Zergling. Holy molly! Neat! That rocked someone’s socks.
I totally recommend following @FubarNick — lot of cool stuff can be found out.
Barely less than 48 hours away from the Blizzard Licensing Panel, Sideshow Collectibles has dropped a teaser for StarCraft II fans. The image shows the unpainted head of at least three different StarCraft II Sixth Scale action figures.
One is Tychus Findlay. The hair style of one of them looks like Jim Raynor. A third head reminds me of Emperor Valerian Mengsk.
Wish to find out more? Blizzplanet will have video of the Blizzard Licensing Panel on Thursday sometime around 9pm EDT / 5pm PDT. The video will be embed at the following page.
The Blizzard Entertainment “Sons of the Storm” artists website has been updated with delicious StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm artwork. All three races get spotlight.
Among the artworks I see a concept art of the head of different Primal zerg and the flora of planet Zerus. Some icy scenes from planet Kaldir. Artwork shown in the Project Blackstone website such as the War Pigs Warhound. Some have been shown in the StarCraft II Short Stories webpage.
However, there are some never seen before — like the Dehaka concept.
As usual, the Sons of the Storm website is also showing artwork of upcoming licensed products such as the front cover of Diablo III: Book of Tyrael and the World of Warcraft: Vol’jin: Shadows of the Horde.
As I browsed through the 25 images, and reached the last one — my jaw dropped. Sharp-eye fans might remember this piece of artwork. This is the front cover of the DC Comics StarCraft Graphic Novel revealed by Hank Kanalz on July 2011 at San Diego Comic Con. Check out the 2011 SDCC coverage page to learn more.
The 120-page graphic novel is untitled still 2 years forward, but the writer was Simon Furman with art by Wei Wang. DC Comics hasn’t revealed details about the status of the StarCraft graphic novel since the SDCC 2011. Hopefully, the public view of this concept art heralds new details this upcoming SDCC 2013.
Make sure to watch Blizzplanet’s video of the Blizzard Licensed Panel (SDCC 2013) this upcoming Thursday, July 18th. Visit the Sons of the Storm website to view the recently added 25 images.

The San Diego Comic Con 2013 booth information is now available. From the list of exhibitors, I hand-picked for our audience some of the booths of interest to visit. Some of them might have potential to display info about upcoming Blizzard licensed products.
The Panel Schedules are not available yet to the public. I’ll update you once those are launched to let you know which day and time Blizzard Publishing plans to make announcements.
The SDCC takes place on July 18-21 at the San Diego Convention Center located at 111 West Harbor Drive San Diego, CA 92101 (Map)
Mega Brands booth 3949 — No new line of World of Warcraft. However, I have confirmation Mega Brands will be giving away a ton of MEGA BLOKS WOW blind packs (I assume the World of Warcraft Mega Bloks #91100 Series 1 Mystery Pack [1 Random Figure]). They will also display a massive Mega Bloks Halo Promethean Knight and give attendees literally thousands of free giveaways. Keep an eye on that booth.
Last year, Sideshow announced the Arthas Polystone Statue, the Diablo Polystone Statue, and the StarCraft II Sixth Scale Figure.
This year, there is potential for Sideshow Collectibles to announce the 2014 Blizzard-licensed product line-up at the Blizzard Entertainment booth # 115.
Funko’s 2013 catalog shared at the Toy Fair New York revealed the concept art of an upcoming line of StarCraft, Diablo and Warcraft POP Vinyl figures: Jim Raynor, Kerrigan, Tyrael, Diablo, Arthas & Illidan. By now they should have some prototypes to show (speculation of course). Update: Blizzard announced new Funko merchandise that will be on sale at the Blizzard Booth.
Simon & Schuster, Inc. — Potential to show the World of Warcraft: Vol’jin: Shadows of the Horde and the 2014 line-up (unless it’s revealed at NYCC).
DC Entertainment might have announcements about the StarCraft Graphic Novel, and/or unveil plans for upcoming Blizzard Licensed graphic novels we haven’t heard of yet. (speculation)
It’s been a while we haven’t heard anything about the DC Unlimited Warcraft/StarCraft action figures. Diamond Distributors and the DC Comics booths might be a good spot to check out upcoming line-up.
Insight Editions might reveal the Diablo III: Book of Tyrael.
UDON is likely showcasing the World of Warcraft Tribute.
Last year, USApoly launched the Monopoly: World of Warcraft Collector’s Edition, and RISK: StarCraft Collector’s Edition. The Trivial Pursuit: World of Warcraft has been under the radar several months. SDCC might be a good place to show it to the world. Will it happen? Check out their booth to find out.
Finally, the XBox and SONY booths. I haven’t heard anything about Blizzard showcasing Diablo III (PS3), or Diablo III (Xbox 360). I’ll update if anything reaches my ears.
Among the Special Guests is Louise Simonson (DC Comics World of Warcraft). Tony Washington (DC Comics World of Warcraft) will be at the Artists Alley (table CC-20)
I added all the booths of interest by booth number / proximity. You can print the page or take a screenshot for your mobile. The Floor Map (PDF) can be found here.
