Let’s take a moment away from our daily gaming life to meditate on what has happened recently in real life (IRL). We have seen this happen in Mexico back in the 80s, in Turkey a few years ago, and other countries, but nothing so incredibly devastating. Azeroth is its own nation with 11.5 million citizens of all races, believes, and ages united by a social game that exists in cyberspace.

Our lives exist in real space, and we have real needs that we can’t ignore. The people of Haiti is the poorest in the Americas hemisphere. It makes all of us human when we care for others, because we see their suffering as ours. If we had the same happen locally, you would be glad to see unknown people coming to your rescue when you and yours are starving, injured or trapped beneath concrete.

The whole nation of Haiti is destroyed. There’s no place unscathed. The removal of debris, and rebuilding will take years. It’s a huge challenge. In the meantime, there’s real people and children piled up sleeping in the streets among hundreds of corpses. Suffering hunger, thirst, and desperation with no resources. Most hospitals crashed down along with other buildings, same with supply stores.

If someone reading this has felt uneasy and impotent, unable to directly help, you are not the only one. Many of us do care. President Obama called in the assistance of ex-Presidents Clinton and Bush to together ask republicans and democrats in United States to help.

“In these difficult hours, America stands united. We stand united with the people of Haiti who have shown such incredible resilience, and we will help them to recover and to rebuild.”

“The most effective way for Americans to help the people of Haiti is to contribute money. That money will go to organizations on the ground who will be able to effectively spend it.

Obama and the ex-presidents directed people to the website https://www.clintonbushhaitifund.org to make donations.
