eBay: Sideshow Collectibles Kerrigan Queen of Blades Statue

Written by Medievaldragon on . Posted in Blizzard Products News, StarCraft 2 News

I have found at least four active, very rare, Sideshow Collectibles Kerrigan Queen of Blades Bust Statues currently auctioned in eBay. This statue is so rare, I didn’t even know these were made (considering how skilled I can be sometimes to find upcoming licensed products — before they are officially announced).

There’s good reason for that. According to the seller, this statue was an exclusive limited-edition 2011 Holiday Gift commissioned to Sideshow Collectibles to be given to select Blizzard Employees. Only 5,100 were made. And four of these are out there in the wild for grabs on eBay.

The statue is listed as a brand-new, unused, unopened, undamaged item. I am totally geeked up about this one. Green jealous of whoever gets ahold of this rare collectible. The auctions end within the next couple of days. That’s four chances to win one. Good luck! And please, send us photos once it’s delivered.

You are bidding on an extremely rare Kerrigan “Queen of Blades” Sideshow Collectibles sculpture/bust that was made exclusively as a 2011 Holiday Gift for select Blizzard Employees. Only 5,100 were ever made. Bid now and get it in time for Starcraft II : Heart of the Swarm release!

    The figure is approximately 12″ (w) x 13″ (h), including the “wingspan”.

The figure is in the original box and everything is BRAND NEW! The Sideshow Collectibles “Quality Assurance” sticker is unbroken, keeping the figure sealed.

    Payment and Shipping:
    – FREE SHIPPING to anywhere in the USA.
    – Paypal Only
    – Due to the nature of the item, no returns are accepted.

Funko Announces a Series of Pop! Vinyl Figures based on Warcraft, StarCraft and Diablo

Written by Medievaldragon on . Posted in Blizzard Products News, Diablo 3 News, StarCraft 2 News, World of Warcraft News

It slipped under our radar that Funko announced a few months ago the 2013 collection releases during the 12 Days of Christmas. I found out about this new series through our Entertainment Earth affiliates who opened up pre-order pages.

Funko and Blizzard Entertainment have entered into a Blizzard Licensed Product agreement to get into your hands a new line of Funco Pop! Vinyl figures based on all three major Blizzard franchises: Diablo, StarCraft and World of Warcraft.

These are slated to ship on September 2013 for $9.99. So far you can now pre-order the World of Warcraft Arthas Pop! Vinyl Figure and the World of Warcraft Illidan Pop! Vinyl Figure.

I personally prefer to pre-order, and encourage our visitors to do so to secure a copy. That prevents missing a copy when they get sold out.

We haven’t seen yet images of the final product, but you can take a look at previous Funko Pop! Vynil figures for an idea.

Blizzplanet will update you once photos of the final product become available. I reached out to Funko to keep us in the loop. Stay tuned. Products linked below are the pre-order pages.

World of Warcraft

StarCraft II

Diablo III

Eldorian found at the Action Figure Insider a photo of the Funko 2013 Catalog given at the Toy Fair New York 2013 where we can clearly see the concept art of how the final product might look like. Tell us, are you looking forward to collecting all of them? What are your thoughts?

Diablo III PS3 Pre-Orders Open

Written by Medievaldragon on . Posted in Blizzard Products News, Diablo 3 News

Pre-orders for the recently announced Diablo III (PS3) have officially opened for $59.99 and Free Shipping. When visiting the link, you will see under “Platform” three options: PS3, PC, PS4. Click the PS3 logo to access the Diablo III PS3 pre-order page.

Something to note is this item was tagged to ship on December 31, 2013. We still have to see if this date is accurate or made up considering not Chris Metzen nor the Blizzard press release provided a release date.

We do know Diablo III PS3 demo will be playable at PAX East 2013 through March 22-24th. Read more about the announcement of the Diablo III on PS3 and PS4. (Video)

Update: For our Facebook/Twitter followers asking about the Diablo III (PS4) pre-orders, my best logical answer is that SONY has not announced yet the PS4 official release date. Not even the PS4 full specs — other than it has 8GB RAM. None of the PlayStation 4 video games should have a release date until SONY announces the PS4 release date. I think that makes sense.

Blizzplanet Review – World of Warcraft: Dawn of the Aspects (Part 1)

Written by Medievaldragon on . Posted in Blizzard Product Reviews, Blizzard Products News, Blizzplanet Reviews, World of Warcraft News

world-of-warcraft-dawn-of-the-aspects-part-1-coverThe first thing to note about World of Warcraft: Dawn of the Aspects is its format. All Blizzard Entertainment novels to date have been printed as Mass Market Paperback (pre-2008), or Hardcover. They are also sold as eBooks, and rarely but we also see them as audio books.

Dawn of the Aspects, however, is presented to Blizzard fans as a 5-part digital book. The very first eBook spun from Blizzard Entertainment was Diablo: Demonsbane by Robert B. Marks (currently reprinted in the pages of Diablo Archive). Demonsbane originally saw low sales in 1999. The eBook market wasn’t that big then until Amazon launched Kindle, and later tablets boomed with the Apple iPad and other brands.

Most recently we have seen Blizzard VP of Creative Design Chris Metzen and Flint Dille delve into the tablet market with IDW Publishing’s Transformers: Autocracy, which originally shipped as a 12-part digital comics. I am a Metzen fanboy … of course, I read all 12-issues. A year after, the 12-part digital comics was printed as a hardcover. Will this be the case with Dawn of the Aspects? We’ll have to find out a year from now.

Their digital comics was so successful, they have teamed up to launch another 12-part Transformers: Monstrosity #1 (March 1, 2013).

Is going digital-only a smart strategy for Blizzard Entertainment to introduce Dawn of the Aspects and new stories?

The answer is complex to ponder and to analyze. I’ll go with the guts version. The lore fans out there love to read stories based on Warcraft, StarCraft and Diablo. However, we don’t always have the time to read through 318 pages when we have real life matters, daily quests, valor points to earn, and raid schedules to fulfill.

So now we have Blizzard introducing yet another publishing format to how they present stories to the fans: A 5-part eBook. The tablet market is there, and lore fans most likely have a tablet, and those who don’t can still read this digital book on their internet browser. It takes less than 2 hours to read.

I just finished reading World of Warcraft: Dawn of the Aspects (Part 1). As I read the last page, I was left with this craving sensation that I have already experienced when reading a Marvel Comic Book. And what an amazing cliffhanger to end this first part of the story. I can’t wait for the second part to be available.

General Story

In a desperate bid to defeat Deathwing at the Maelstrom, the dragon aspects lost their powers. With the primordial guardians of Azeroth neutralized, it’s now the Age of Mortals. The future of Azeroth now lies on mortal hands.

What happened with the dragon aspects after the Fall of Deathwing, and why they aren’t present in Mists of Pandaria?

Richard A. Knaak addresses this enigma in World of Warcraft: Dawn of the Aspects (Part 1 of 5).

The blue dragonflight has disbanded and gone their separate ways to live as individuals.

The shrines of the Wyrmrest Temple have no purpose now. The dragonflights are in disarray. However, it’s the one last meeting place the dragon aspects choose to talk about the present affairs.

Chromie reports the timeways are in flux after the use of the Dragon Soul. Nozdormu interjects: “The timeways are no longer our concern! They are beyond my ability to control. From here on, the younger races and the younger races alone will deal with both them and whatever paths to the future they lead to.”

Merithra reports the nightmare stirs in the Rift of Aln (as seen in World of Warcraft: Stormrage.) Ysera says it’s a task only the druids may take care of.

Something this story clearly marks in our minds is that the Wyrmrest Accord is no more.

Nozdormu, Ysera and Alexstrasza don’t even acknowledge their former Aspect title. They are just like any other dragon. See no need to continue the accord.

Richard A. Knaak briefly mentions some events from Christie Golden’s novel World of Warcraft: Jaina. The theft of the Focusing Iris.

Khagdar has asked Kalec to join the Kirin Tor.

After the summit at the Wyrmrest Temple, the dragons convene to meet one more time a month from now to officially disassemble the Wyrmrest Accord.

Moments after the meeting, Kalec senses something, and begins digging beneath Galakrond’s skeleton. An octagonal-shaped magical relic triggers Kalec to see through Malygos’ eyes in a distant era before the Titans blessed the Dragon Aspects.

A time when they were mere proto-dragons roaming the skies, hunting food in the northern lands now known as Northrend.

world-of-warcraft-dawn-of-the-aspects-1920px

This first part of five, offers a pretty good tease of what one might expect throughout the story.

The author shifts often to the far past, and then back to the present as Kalec awakens from his visions.

Kalec witnesses the moment Malygos and Neltharion became blood brothers.

There is another continuity nod from the Tokyopop manga titled “Warcraft Legends”. Kalec finds the spirit of Buniq (a female Taunka). She was Akiak’s mate in Taunka’le Village. She had come to Galakrond’s Rest in the manga where she met her demise.

There is much more that will itch Warcraft lore fans’ curiosity and thirst for more. Undead proto-dragons that far back in the past of Azeroth?

The octagonal-shaped relic turned out to be part of another bigger object that resembled a human-like hand. Red Herring alert!!!

It’s not mentioned in this part what the hand belonged to, but lore fans might remember that early humans — the Azotha, had a legend of Tyr (WowWiki), who sacrificed his hand fighting against a great evil. Tyr replaced the lost hand with … a Silver Hand … as in the figure commemorated by the Order of the Silver Hand.

In Wrath of the Lich King, one of the quests sends you to each of the temples high in the peaks. It’s revealed that Tyr was one of the Watchers of Ulduar, along with Freya, Thorim, Mimiron and Hodir.

On June 2010, during the Ask the Devs # 1 Q&A, a fan asked: “Building off that- whatever happened to Tyr?”. Bornakk responded: “The watcher Tyr was not in Ulduar when adventurers finally freed the titan city from Yogg-Saron’s influence. If anyone knows where Tyr is now, he or she isn’t speaking up.”

It’s wild speculation at this time, but this novel might be the way Blizzard Entertainment reveals more info about this obscure character responsible for the guidance and protection of the early Azotha (Human tribe).

Going this far back in time, there is a pretty chance we might get to hear about the Titans, Yogg-Saron and the Watchers of Ulduar, the Nerubians and the Curse of Flesh? Only time will tell. Each part of this novel will be released in a monthly basis. So stay tuned for the next installment.

If I were you, I’d keep a close eye to this 5-part series. Read World of Warcraft: Dawn of the Aspects: Part I now. When ordering, choose the Kindle Cloud Reader to read over Firefox or other internet browser. Or download the Free Reading Apps for iPad/iPod/iPhone, BlackBerry, Mac, and Android.

Note: Recently, I asked Micky Neilson whether this story involves more details of the Titans, Yogg-Saron and Tyr. His response here. Was that a yes?!

Book Description

world-of-warcraft-dawn-of-the-aspects-part-1-coverTHE AGE OF DRAGONS IS OVER.

Uncertainty plagues Azeroth’s ancient guardians as they struggle to find a new purpose. This dilemma has hit Kalecgos, youngest of the former Dragon Aspects, especially hard. Having lost his great powers, how can he—or any of his kind—still make a difference in the world?

The answer lies in the distant past, when savage beasts called proto-dragons ruled the skies. Through a mysterious artifact found near the heart of Northrend, Kalecgos witnesses this violent era and the shocking history of the original Aspects: Alexstrasza, Ysera, Malygos, Neltharion, and Nozdormu.

In their most primitive forms, the future protectors of Azeroth must stand united against Galakrond, a bloodthirsty creature that threatens the existence of their race. But did these mere proto-dragons face such a horrific adversary alone, or did an outside force help them? Were they given the strength they would become legendary for…or did they earn it with blood? Kalecgos’s discoveries will change everything he knows about the events that led to the…DAWN OF THE ASPECTS

PART I

The former Dragon Aspects are on the brink of going their separate ways to forge new destinies. As Kalecgos ponders the uncertain future awaiting his kind, he uncovers a mysterious artifact that allows him to see through the eyes of his late predecessor, Malygos. Intense visions bombard Kalecgos, transporting him to a time when the original Aspects were no more than primitive proto-dragons. Across ancient Kalimdor’s northern plains, they fought for survival against each other and a terrifying creature that dominated the era: the Father of Dragons, Galakrond. But many questions remain for Kalecgos. What are the origins of this strange artifact? Are its visions a gift, or a curse?

Robert Clotworthy Auctions 8/10 Numbered StarCraft II Jim Raynor Action Figure

Written by Medievaldragon on . Posted in Blizzard Products News, StarCraft 2 News

starcraft-ii-jim-raynor-signed-number-8StarCraft II voice actor Robert Clotworthy is auctioning the limited and numbered 8/10 StarCraft II Jim Raynor Action Figure. The winner is not only taking home this action figure, but a personalized recording using his Jim Raynor voice. Choose whatever text flavor you wish him to say — neat gift to a friend or family too.

Robert will also include some extras into the mix. He’s not saying what it is. It’s a surprise. The winner’s money will be donated entirely to the non-profit organization of the winner’s own choosing.

We are very fond and proud of Robert Clotworthy. We spearheaded the petition to get him back to rehearse his role as Jim Raynor a few years ago, and our Blizzplanet Weekly host Chris Arnone met him in person at the MLG Anaheim Spring event. Check out the interview.

Robert Clotworthy: Listen up Marines!

As many of you are aware, since 1998 I have had the honor of being the voice of Jim Raynor in the StarCraft video game series.

This past year I have been dusting off Jim Raynor Action figures from my personal collection and auctioning them off with the proceeds going to charity. I am going to sign and number ten of these puppies and ten only.

Up for auction in #8 in the series. This is brand new and unopened… just like my bottle of Scotty Bolger’s old #8.

Included with the item is a handwritten and signed letter of authenticity.

I also promise to throw in a couple of surprise goodies for the winning bidder.

As an extra incentive, I will also record a personal greeting from Jim Raynor if you would like.

The release of HOTS is right around the corner. Here’s your chance to climb on board The Hyperion with Jimmy and kick some Zerg tail.

Now don’t get your panties in a bunch… that doesn’t mean I only want bids from Terrans… I will hold my nose and send it to Protoss and Zerg alike. Here’s your chance to get a little payback.

Remember, some things are just worth fighting for.

Raiders Roll!

Blizzplanet Visits Toy Fair 2013 – Trivial Pursuit: World of Warcraft Edition Photos

Written by Medievaldragon on . Posted in Blizzard Products News, World of Warcraft News

Snow storm or not, I embarked into an adventure traveling on a Sunday to the 2013 Toy Fair New York. Nothing like visiting the Jacob K. Javitz Center. Once you go around the corner and see the building, you realize you are about to get overwhelmed by a ton of imagery, geekiness-fix, and joy!

toy-fair-2013-1764

I got my press badge at the Hall 1E, and after checking in with the Information Booth to find out where to find USAopoly, I raided their hall at booth # 457.

Turns out I was raid and taken by surprise. I think I have never gotten such a friendly welcome before. I met USAopoly Director of Marketing Jeanette Best for the first time last year’s Toy Fair.

Jeanette Best Adam Sblendorio

Today, when I arrived to their Hall, I began to process in my mind to extend my hand to handshake her, following protocols, but before my hand could go out I was welcomed by Jeanette with open arms as she walked toward me, and warmly hugged me.

It’s so awesome to be a fansite/community representative.

Trivial Pursuit: World of Warcraft Edition

I was ready to interview USAopoly’s Jeanette Best and Art Director Adam Sblendorio, but I was told the game board is still in development. Things could change overnight, and we agreed to gather more questions from the community and to email them.

What I want to share with you guys is that Blizzard Entertainment is very involved in the development of this Trivial Pursuit: World of Warcraft Edition. The artwork and other aspects of the game board will be developed internally by the Blizzard Art Team.

Please post your questions about the Trivial Pursuit: World of Warcraft Edtion below, on Facebook, Twitter or my Mdragon email. USAopoly and Blizzard Entertainment will respond your questions.

What little I could learn about this product is the Trivial Pursuit: World of Warcraft Edition contains:

  • 1 Game Board
  • 50 Cards with 300 Questions about the World of Warcraft
  • 36 Widgets
  • 6 Wedge Holders
  • 6 Pawn Movers
  • 1 Die
  • Instructions

Note: These are not set in stone. I think I recall I heard 600-700 Questions. Not sure. This product content was read from the exhibited box.

toy-fair-2013-1770

A still undetermined ratio of questions will come directly from fans at some point. USAopoly is popular for involving the community in some decisions. Fans voted to choose the final pieces of the Monopoly: World of Warcraft Edition, for example.

I’m very excited about this product. Many fans in our recent Reddit post already say they want to buy this edition.

Trivial Pursuit: World of Warcraft Edition is slated to hit retail stores on Fall 2013 for $24.95.

Visit USAopoly website and their facebook page.

Mega Bloks World of Warcraft – 2013 Spring & Fall Collection

I visited Mega Brands (umm, booth?) … fortress # 751 to schedule an appointment. After checking all what Toy Fair has to offer, I returned at 5:00pm. I learned Dave Burgess is no longer at Mega Brands, which saddened me. He was my contact at New York Comic Con. Great guy.

Tanya Furci-Argento welcomed me and showed me the Mega Bloks World of Warcraft section. She’ll be my new contact for upcoming preview images and review copies. Her colleague, who knows more about the brand filled me in on Mega Bloks’ plans.

Mega Bloks is changing their strategy a bit by introducing different price point products: The sets, the three-creature packs, and the Mystery chest-like packs containing random armor and weapons to create your own Mega Bloks World of Warcraft characters.

The Creature Pack 1 contains a Fire Elemental and a Ghost Wolf. The Creature Pack 2 contains a ghostly crow and a son of Har’koa. The Creature Pack 3 contains a yellow Murloc and a blue Murloc. What each of these Creature Packs have in common? Each has a hearthstone-like chest containing a mystery creature.

The 2013 Spring Collection contains the following new items:

The 2013 Fall Collection:

  • Nefarian’s Descent Set (91049) contains a Nefarian dragon and a Draenei. This is the first time a Draenei joins the Mega Bloks World of Warcraft family.
  • Garrosh’s Throne Set – contains Garrosh, his throne (with Mannoroth’s skull above), a Blood Elf Warrior and a Worgen Death Knight with a Stone Drake.

Description

THE AGE OF DRAGONS IS OVER.

Kalecgos’s discoveries will change everything he knows about the events that led to the … DAWN OF THE ASPECTS

The age of the dragons is over. Azeroth’s ancient guardians struggle to find new purpose in a world plagued by uncertainty. Author Richard A. Knaak explores the history of the Dragon Aspects in this five part mini-series, which takes place at a moment in time before they’d been granted their powers, when they were called upon to band together against the proto-dragon Galakrond.

Kalecgos, youngest of the former Dragon Aspects, has been hit especially hard by the changes brought about by the death of Deathwing.

Were they given the strength they would become legendary for . . . or did they earn it with blood? Kalecgos’s discoveries will change everything he knows about the events that led to the dawn of the Aspects.

Check out the teaser below for the first part of Dawn of Aspects which arrives on February, 19.

World of Warcraft: Dawn of the Aspects

Part I Excerpt

And then… a sound louder than thunder stilled not only the sisters, but every proto-dragon in the vicinity.

The sound erupted again, shaking the rocky ridges upon which Malygos and many of the other hunters perched. Several of the proto-dragons were cowed, and Kalec felt even Malygos fight not to prostrate himself.

Only then did Kalec realize that the incredible noise was a gigantic roar.

A vast region of the overcast sky broke away, descending with astonishing swiftness. The velocity caused the clouds to quickly scatter, revealing a sight that truly could daunt not only a proto-dragon, but even the most powerful of Kalec’s own kind.

This was supposed to be a proto-dragon, but so immense was its size that not even a dragon could be chosen for an adequate comparison. Kalec could think of no creature save one that could be used… and that would have meant comparing Galakrond to himself.

Even though Kalec had never seen the gigantic Galakrond in the flesh, the remote possibility that he would not have recognized this titanic being had been eliminated by Galakrond’s name racing over and over through Malygos’s mind. In addition, through his host’s brief glimpse away from the Father of Dragons to the other proto-dragons, Kalec saw that not one of the hunters remained in the sky. Galakrond now commanded the world above, and there was no proto-dragon foolish enough to challenge that rule.

He swooped down, passing over the entire region in a matter of seconds. In Galakrond’s wake there came a vicious wind that even tore several proto-dragons from their roosts and sent more than one meal toppling to the ground far below. Galakrond’s roar was no less ground-shaking miles away, forcing Malygos and the sisters to grip their perches tighter.

For such a colossal creature, Galakrond turned with remarkable agility. Once more, he passed over the now-panicking herd, but this time with intent. Galakrond seized up two caribou in each of his much larger hind paws and scooped up another whole in his gargantuan maw, then rose up. The grazer in his mouth vanished down his gullet and a moment later so did both of those in his left hind paw. By the time Galakrond leveled, all five of his catches were well on their way down to his stomach.

But five was not enough. Galakrond veered back and lunged toward the scattering prey. This time, however, he suddenly pulled back. Confused at first, Kalec watched as the bending of the vast wings during the halt created a windstorm that sent dozens of beasts rolling uncontrollably.

Before several of the caribou could rise to their feet, Galakrond plucked them up. With at least eight claimed that Kalec could see, the Father of Dragons soared back into the clouds.

It was not until several seconds after Galakrond’s departure that the first proto-dragons dared move. There was no renewal of the hunt; not only were the caribou scattered so far and wide that pursuit would have required too much effort, but most of the proto-dragons were still too shaken up by Galakrond’s startling manifestation. Some took to the sky themselves and fled for calmer climes. Others remained subdued.

The Father of Dragons… Kalec could still not believe the stunning image. To witness Galakrond alive was something he could never have imagined.

The blue knew little of Galakrond save that he had been one of the largest beings to roam Azeroth and that he had represented the shift from proto-dragon to true dragon. It was not that Galakrond had actually fathered all true dragons—that was a myth somehow spread millennia ago—but that after him had come the five Aspects and their respective dragonflights. Proto-dragons had all but vanished after that.

There were other legends concerning Galakrond, but, in truth, Kalec understood that only his three counterparts knew the truth. He had never thought to ask them about the Father of Dragons, but now wished that he had.

Yet, Kalec’s momentary awe soon gave way again to his anger and frustration—and growing concern—over his being trapped in these ancient visions. Each one seemed more and more lifelike, as if his own time were the fantasy and this scene now were the true present.

Not for the first time, he tried to will himself back, but nothing changed. He continued to be an insignificant, unnoticed phantasm trapped within Malygos. Not even Alexstrasza or Ysera—both of whom in the future would have abilities that should make them sense his presence—so much as glanced in curiosity at the male beside them.

I will be free! Kalec abruptly roared, though his roar went unheard by any save himself. Bereft of a throat—or a body—he felt like nothing but a memory remembered by no one.

Laughter filled his—or rather, Malygos’s—ears. Kalec at first thought that someone mocked him, but instead, the laughter was aimed at the other proto-dragons by a charcoal-gray male a bit larger than most, who actually sneered at the others.

“Little hatchlings!” he bellowed. “Afraid of the sky! Afraid of the ground! Galakrond laughs at you for being afraid, and I, Neltharion, do, too!”

Some of the proto-dragons hissed at the gray male, but no one challenged him. By their glances, they knew him to be strong and able to back up his taunt. Even those proto-dragons who clearly had little more intelligence than their prey appeared to know better than to fight—

Neltharion? The name finally penetrated. Kalec sought in vain to seize control of Malygos’s body as the newcomer, still laughing, flew off. Where Galakrond had been a startling, unsettling thing of legend, this gray male represented a danger to the future of all life on Azeroth. If there was a creature more evil than Neltharion, Kalec could not think of one.

Of course, by the blue’s time, the gray male would be better known by his more apt title… Deathwing. (source)

World of Warcraft: Dawn of the Aspects – Part 1

Written by Medievaldragon on . Posted in Blizzard Products News, World of Warcraft News

World of Warcraft: Dawn of the Aspects (Part 1) by Richard A. Knaak is a must-read for those who love to read about the dragon aspects. In this story not only do we witness the origins of the dragon aspects before the Titans bestowed upon them their powers in the far past, but also a contemporary times update post Deathwing’s Fall. Shortly after “The Age of Mortals” began and the dragon aspects lost their powers. Kalec finds an item of power that allows him to see through the eyes of Malygos back to an era where Galakrond was alive and the dragon aspects were still mere proto-drakes.

The 5-part story will be published as an eBook every month. Pre-order them now to get your copies reserved and ready on launch date.

The Art of Blizzard Entertainment – Description

Over the past two decades, Blizzard Entertainment has had a tremendous impact on the world of games and global pop culture. From its humble beginnings as a three-person console-game development studio in 1991 to the creation of the blockbuster Warcraft®, StarCraft®, and Diablo® series, Blizzard has a history of crafting stunning worlds of science fiction and fantasy. The company’s distinctive gameplay and storytelling styles have captivated an international audience numbering in the tens of millions whose passion cannot be quelled.

Twenty years after Blizzard opened its doors, the company’s World of Warcraft® boasts the title of the world’s most popular subscription-based massively multiplayer online role-playing game, and the studio is widely recognized as one of the leaders in creatively driven game development.

An epic volume of art and behind-the-scenes insights, The Art of Blizzard® celebrates the studio’s genesis by examining the creative forces behind these games and showcasing their artistry through more than 700 pieces of concept art, paintings, and sketches. Commentary on the art is provided by Blizzard Entertainment’s own Nick Carpenter, Sam Didier, and Chris Metzen, who’ve each played important roles in shaping Blizzard’s game universes over the years.

WETA On Crowning Glory for 20 Years Blizzard Veterans

Written by Medievaldragon on . Posted in Blizzard Products News, Diablo 3 News, StarCraft 2 News, World of Warcraft News

WETA posted photos of the making of the Crown of Glory award designed by Nick Carpenter for the veteran Blizzard Entertainment employees who have worked at the company for 20 years.

As an afterthought, WETA posted a letter by Blizzard Entertainment VP of Art and Cinematic Development Nick Carpenter explaining the initial concept and design process for the development of the Crown of Glory. Here’s just an excerpt:

Nick Carpenter: Coming up with a design for our 20-year service award was no ordinary task. It had to be truly epic and make the recipient feel that he or she was part of something special and rare in our industry. Considering that we award 5-year employees with a sword, and 10-year employees with a shield, a badass crown felt like the right thing to do.

We wanted it to draw from all of our games without being specific to any one of them. It had to stand on its own while still feeling true to what Blizzard is all about. So what we ultimately arrived at, after more than a year of off-and-on concept runs with an army of artists from around the company, was a design that has a touch of the Lich King’s helmet, a bit of Imperius’s armor, some of King Terenas’s crown, and a hint of protoss curves for good measure.

Furthermore, to the naysayers who think the Warcraft film is vaporware — you should know that the featured film is still coming. Blizzplanet found on Twitter that WETA is definitely going to be involved in the Warcraft featured film.

For a quick background on the New Zealand-based company, WETA manufactured the weapons, armor and/or vehicles for Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings Trilogy, and James Cameron’s Avatar.

Blizzard Holiday 2012: Diablo III Treasure Goblin Statue

Written by Medievaldragon on . Posted in Blizzard Products News, Diablo 3 News, World of Warcraft News

Another awesome reason to be a Blizzard Entertainment employee. VP of Art and Cinematic Development Nick Carpenter revealed a Diablo III Treasure Goblin statue. The statue is a Blizzard employee-only Christmas gift. (I can hear some fans’ inner-thoughts: “Jacknabbit!!! I want that!”)

The statue was sculpt by former McFarlane Toys sculptor Brian Fay — currently Blizzard Entertainment Sculpting Lead, and sculptor/owner of Claymator Studios. Brian Fay recently sculpt the Sideshow Collectibles World of Warcraft Arthas Statue.

The goblins are crafting lots of Zeppelins for this assault. Mega Bloks keeps up with the quality of these Toymation episodes with many special effects. It looks like the next episode will be one of epic proportions with a massive warfare of Mega Bloks World of Warcraft sets.

“An Alliance mission to sabotage Horde equipment goes awry when they are discovered, causing the Horde to accelerate their plans. Will word of the assault reach Colton before the Horde reach Stormwind Castle?”
