World of Warcraft Mountain Dew Game Fuel Promotion

Blizzard Entertainment has announced a new promotion partnership between World of Warcraft and Mountain Dew Soft Beverage will hit stores very soon in two flavors: the Wild Fruit and the Citrus Cherry. The Game Fuel edition was announced on April 2007 and featured a higher caffeine content compared to other brands, which fit in line with the marketing goals toward players expecting the release of Halo 3 who planned to play it for many hours straight.

The Game Fuel edition had been absent from the market for a while.  Pepsi released the Halo 3 Xbox 360 Limited Edition Mountain Dew: Game Fuel on August 13, 2007. Back then, some gamers would play Halo 3 for three days straight. The promotion campaign ran through 12 weeks, and was removed from the market on November 2007. This really makes me wonder if this promotion has anything to do with the new World of Warcraft expansion that might no doubt be announced on August 2009 at BlizzCon.

These game fuel came on a 20-ounce bottle for a total of 120 milligrams of caffeine per bottle. It would keep people awake indeed.

Coincidentially, it was Citrus Cherry flavored like the Horde Edition. Back then, the nutrition facts for this flavor was an Estimated Percent of Calories from: Fat 0.0%, Carbs 108.2%, and Protein 0.0%.

In the near future, you’ll be able to see World of Warcraft characters in a new place—the beverage aisle. This summer, Mountain Dew will launch Game Fuel in two World of Warcraft-inspired flavors—Alliance Blue (wild fruit flavor) and Horde Red (citrus cherry flavor)—available for a limited time only. We’ll be announcing further details in the coming months, so stay tuned.
