Blizzard Entertainment has added Rexxar and his loyal bear Misha as a quest NPC at the Thunderlord Village in Blade’s Edge Mountain.  Rexxar has come to Outland to search for his tribe of ogre-orcish half-breed: the Mok’Nathal.

For those recently acquainted with the Warcraft universe, Rexxar was a neutral hero added to Warcraft III: Frozen Throne (2003) and who became main focus in the independent Orc campaign, which introduced a quest system for Warcraft III: Frozen Throne WorldEditor.

Rexxar and his bear found a dying grunt who requested Rexxar to honor him by delivering his message to Thrall.  Thrall welcomed Rexxar as a guest.  The Mok’Nathal hero helped the Horde finish the construction of Orgrimmar, as well as complete many missions for members of the Horde such as Grunts, a Far Seer and Darkspear Trolls among others.  Rexxar defeated the leader of the Stonemaul ogres, earning his right as new leader of the Stonemaul.

For his unconditional support, Thrall proclaimed Rexxar as Champion of the Horde.  Thrall gave Rexxar the honor of carrying the Horde Flag leading the battle against Admiral Proudmoore at Northwatch Hold in the Barrens. After Warcraft III: Frozen Throne, Rexxar was next seen in World of Warcraft patrolling the road from Stonetalon Mountains to Feralas.  He is involved in the Onyxia’s Lair quest chain.  Now in World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade, the story is progressing with Rexxar returning back home to his tribe. Below is a transcript of the quests. Enjoy!

Garm Wolfbrother: Whatever advice I can give to aid in your fight against the ogres, you shall have it!

THE SPIRITS HAVE VOICES

Now that you can see me, there is something you must tell Rexxar. I know that he seeks his people, and I know where they are.

The Mok’Nathal, as they are known, have a village to the east beyond the Razor Ridge.

Go, give Rexxar this news. His people are in danger, and I know that he will want to come to their aid.

QUEST OBJECTIVES:

Garm Wolfbrother has told you where the Mok’Nathal, Rexxar’s people, live. Speak of this to Rexxar at Thunderlord Stronghold in the Blade’s Edge Mountains. Rewards: 69S

Rexxar: The search for my people. Our struggle against the Alliance. The war with the ogres and their gronn masters.

All of these things weigh heavy upon my shoulders.

Even I can use some help from time to time.

What is this you speak of?

Garm Wolfbrother? He was the last chieftain of the Thunderlord clan. If you have communed with his spirit, then it must be true.

WHISPERS ON THE WIND

Rexxar: I have chased rumors of the Mok’Nathal across Outland with nothing to show for it. Finally, we may have found their home.

But now that the moment is here, I am filled with unease. Unease that has kept me awake deep into the nights during my search. Will they accept me?

I … know their leader’s name: Leoroxx. Seek him out. You must be my eyes in this.

QUEST OBJECTIVES:

Search out Leoroxx at the Mok’Nathal Village in the Blade’s Edge Mountains. Rewards: 69S

Leoroxx: Our enemies surround us. I would have a better life for the Mok’Nathal, but the forces we are at battle with have chosen otherwise for us.

If you would prove yourself worthy to the Mok’Nathal, aid us in their elimination.

What brings you to our village?

REUNION

Leoroxx: So you come from thte world beyond the Portal? And you know of Rexxar. Oh yes, I am quite familiar with him.

You see, he is my son.

But he made his choice a lifetime ago. He is not one of us, and he is not welcome here. We have enough troubles, with the Bloodmaul ogres.

Know this: being born a half-breed does not make you Mok’Nathal.

QUEST OBJECTIVES:

Return to Rexxar at Thunderlord Stronghold in Blade’s Edge Mountains. Rewards: 1g 74S

Rexxar: So my father does live. I did not expect him to forgive me – that was never his way. But I had hoped that the years had dulled the anger he must have felt at my departure.

Thirty years ago, I left the Mok’Nathal to follow the Horde to Azeroth. Leoroxx was staunchly agaisnt it, but then, he never gave me any reason to stay. Still, a better welcome for this I had hoped for.

He wanted a Mok’Nathal for a son and he has one now, even if he will not know it.

I must open his eyes.

ON SPIRIT’S WINGS

If the Mok’Nathal are tormented by the Bloodmaul ogres, then I will stop them and their followers. Ogres are simple creatures, and there is little profit they could gain from harassing the Mok’Nathal.

There must be something more to this. Take Spirit, my hawk, and spy upon the conversations of the Bloodmaw’s leaders. He may go undetected where we cannot.

QUEST OBJECTIVES:

Find a Bloodmaul Taskmaster and a Bloodmaul Soothsayer engaged in conversation, then use Rexxar’s Whistle to summon Spirit to spy on them. When this is complete, return to Rexxar at Thunderlord Village in the Blade’s Edge Mountains. Rewards: 10g 69S

Rexxar: What have you learned?

(Spirit perches upon Rexxar’s shoulder, while Rexxar listens intently.)

So it is the sons of Gruul that are behind the ogres’ actions. They command the Bloodmaul ogres to destroy the Mok’Nathal to gain their favor.

NOTE: The quest broke here abruptly.  Blade’s Edge Mountains is still incomplete.  Blizzard said the quests are still in testing.  Hopefully, this chain will expand.  With the mention of the Gronn, this quest line might end sending you into Gruul’s Lair soon or later.
