Fifth Blizzard Game In the Works Update

Written by Medievaldragon on . Posted in Blizzard Games News, Diablo 2 News, Diablo 3 News, Next-Gen MMO, StarCraft 2 News, Starcraft News, Starcraft: Ghost News, Warcraft 3 News, World of Warcraft News

Recently, Blizzard Entertainment added two job openings under the category titled Unannounced. I wrote an article about it a few days ago. We have now a few interesting bits concerning these job openings for a unannounced game.

UpdateMarch 24—The job openings mentioned in this newspost is indeed a brand-new game that has not been mentioned before.

1. This brand-new game is not a World of Warcraft expansion, and it is not related to the Next-Gen MMO.

2. In the present, the brand-new game is using the World of Warcraft engine merely for testing purposes.

3. The Client Software Engineer job opening is to hire the person that will have the responsibility to develop an engine from scratch for this game.  This new engine will be built depending on the skill and interest of the person hired for this position.

Whether this game is based on the three major franchises (Warcraft, Starcraft or Diablo) or a new IP, that remains unknown.

We encourage our readers who have the skills and fill the requirements for this job to step forward and submit a resume and code samples to [email protected].

Now the Scourge attacks the Alliance and the Horde. Are we gonna see some zombies shrieking the word: “BRRAIIIIIINNNSSS !!!” We will have to wait and see.

World of Warcraft Mountain Dew Game Fuel Promotion

Written by Medievaldragon on . Posted in Blizzard Games News, Blizzard Products News, World of Warcraft News

Blizzard Entertainment has announced a new promotion partnership between World of Warcraft and Mountain Dew Soft Beverage will hit stores very soon in two flavors: the Wild Fruit and the Citrus Cherry. The Game Fuel edition was announced on April 2007 and featured a higher caffeine content compared to other brands, which fit in line with the marketing goals toward players expecting the release of Halo 3 who planned to play it for many hours straight.

The Game Fuel edition had been absent from the market for a while.  Pepsi released the Halo 3 Xbox 360 Limited Edition Mountain Dew: Game Fuel on August 13, 2007. Back then, some gamers would play Halo 3 for three days straight. The promotion campaign ran through 12 weeks, and was removed from the market on November 2007. This really makes me wonder if this promotion has anything to do with the new World of Warcraft expansion that might no doubt be announced on August 2009 at BlizzCon.

These game fuel came on a 20-ounce bottle for a total of 120 milligrams of caffeine per bottle. It would keep people awake indeed.

Coincidentially, it was Citrus Cherry flavored like the Horde Edition. Back then, the nutrition facts for this flavor was an Estimated Percent of Calories from: Fat 0.0%, Carbs 108.2%, and Protein 0.0%.

Blizzard Quote:
In the near future, you’ll be able to see World of Warcraft characters in a new place—the beverage aisle. This summer, Mountain Dew will launch Game Fuel in two World of Warcraft-inspired flavors—Alliance Blue (wild fruit flavor) and Horde Red (citrus cherry flavor)—available for a limited time only. We’ll be announcing further details in the coming months, so stay tuned.

Wrath of the Lich King Ban In China Was False

Written by Medievaldragon on . Posted in Blizzard Games News, World of Warcraft News

Gamespot investigated the rumor that Wrath of the Lich King had been banned by Mainland China government.  The original source that cited the big headliner extracted some information from the East Asia Finance blog: JML Pacific Epoch.  That article doesn’t mention a ban.  In turn, the JML blog cited the chinese-language search engine Sohu, where news about the situation had been posted.  What nobody knew when all this emerged is that Sohu stated their source for all of this fabrication was from unnamed sources. What means that the banning was very exaggerated. And didn’t happen at all.

That reminds me of how the economic crisis in USA started.  There is CRISIS !!!! And out of nowhere everyone started taking their money out of banks, and they in turn collapsed, which resulted in a chain reaction. Collective hysteria, anyone?

In short, don’t worry. Wrath of the Lich King hasn’t been banned in Mainland China. The Burning Crusade release date suffered a few delays in China, and that was solved by removing skeletons and fleshing the Undead to remove the skeleton areas in their cheeks, ribs and joints. Burning Crusade launched later and there hasn’t been any major problems for said expansion with the Chinese government.

Wrath of the Lich King will come afloat once The9 adjusts the expansion to meet the regulations and law stipulated by the government. Back on November, when Wrath of the Lich King launched, I interviewed Frank Pearce (Blizzard Entertainment Senior Vice-President, and World of Warcraft Executive Producer) during the New York Midnight Launch.  Pearce said: “We are still going through the process of iterating on that, working with the different government authorities responsible for that, so we don

A Quest To Honor A Father’s Memory

Written by Medievaldragon on . Posted in Blizzard Games News, World of Warcraft News

When I read this, it somehow touched me. Of course, we don’t need Christie Golden or other writers to cause that thing deep within us to be touched. You know … emotions. Everyone wraps up with the artificial facade that is an online character or avatar, separting their true selves from their online alter ego to the point we classify our breathing and human things as IRL (In Real Life).

In terms of RPG or book stories, you would feel touched if you read something along a Tauren Shaman who embarks in a quest to deliver his father’s staff to the other side of the world, through perilous lands to bring it before the elders of his tribe to be placed on a sacred shrine in order to honor her father’s memory. If Christie Golden wrote such a story you would shed a tear most likely.

In real life, a man age 57—Jerald Spangenberg—was a World of Warcraft player, and had many friends in his guild.  However, one day he no longer came back online. He was absent for three weeks. He collapsed and died of an abdominal aneurysm while still playing World of Warcraft. His daughter Melissa Allen Spangenberg—for a reason that befuddles me felt the need to tell his guild that he had passed away.

She tried to contact a Blizzard Entertainment representative to find out her father’s account password to notify his guild, with no luck. This rises the question, whether Blizzard should consider an evaluation of their terms of service where parents or family members could have access to the accounts when the original subscriber passes away.  At least by presenting a certificate of death via fax. Or an option link in the terms of service that allows subscribers to set permission to a person (providing a name and address) to access your account in the event you died for as long as that person submits a certificate of death.

Regardless, Melissa didn’t rest until she could notify her father’s online friends of his death. She created a World of Warcraft account. Searched restlessly on his server to find out if anyone knew what guild he belonged to. And finally, she contacted the guild leader Chuck Pagoria from Morgantown, Kentucky to honor what could have been her father’s wish to let his friends know.

A waste of time, or a noble act? Read the full story at Tech.Yahoo.

PTR 3.1 Ulduar - Mimiron

Written by Medievaldragon on . Posted in Blizzard Games News, World of Warcraft News

Mimiron can be found at The Spark of Imagination within the Ulduar dungeon. This is the boss that can be accessed through the tram service. Mimiron mounts a tank that resembles the boss Leviathan. He named it the Leviathan MK II (Mortal Kombat II?)  I had the opportunity to test Mimiron 13 times. It is absolutely the hardest boss thus far.  It is a DPS race as much as it is a survival race. He dies in approximately 4:30-5:00 minutes for as long as enough players stay alive through the carnage.

The most fearful ability is definitely the Napalm Shell. This ability kills a player before a Flash Heal can get through. That’s barely 2 seconds or less. Read the phase one abilities below the video.

LEVIATHAN MK II – PHASE ONE

Leviathan MK II has 1742K health in 10-man.

Melee Swing: Hits for 4200 to 6000 physical damage.

Plasma Blast: It is a 3 sec cast, with a 7 sec cooldown. It deals 20000 Fire damage per sec for 6 sec.

Napalm Shell: It is a 2 sec cast. Deals 9425 to 10575 fire damage. It can be resisted down by half with fire aura and fire resist potions. The affected player must run away from the place of impact which gets a 5-yards aura that deals 6000 fire damage a tick for 8 sec. Healers will see his cannon throw a fireball toward a random target. Make sure to cast HOTs, Prayer of Mending, and Holy Shock on the affected player to keep them alive long enough for a healer to cast a flash or big heal.  It is nigh impossible to cast a flash light in time. Seriously, You can lose a player that rough-fast. Come prepared with health potions to help your healers keep you alive. As soon as you get hit by Napalm Shell, drink a healing potion.  Keep healing pots on a hotkey for this encounter. And a fel health stone. Paladins can use Divine Shield and Mages can iceblock out of its effects.

Rocket Strike: Instant cast. This deals 1000000 fire damage within a 3 yard radius.
damage.

Shock Blast: 5 sec cast. It deals 100000 Nature. It can be resisted. Does only around 14000 – 17500 nature damage with the Hunter buff. You will see a blinding electric jolt emanate from Leviathan MK II. All melee has 5 sec to run away. It has a 15 yard radius.

Proximity Mine: Inflicts 17500 fire damage. Can be resisted. Leviathan MK II willl launch a circle of mines 10 yards around himself which stay on the ground for around 20 sec before exploding. Make sure to stay away from them or they explode. They look like the mines in Blood Furnace. A rogue can dismantle them.

Once the Leviathan MK II tank is destroyed, the fight doesn’t end there. That’s the beginning of Phase 2, where he starts attacking players with the VX-001 Anti-personnel Assault Cannon. We didn’t get to test Phase 2, however. There is a total of four phases. More soon.

Keith has an interesting panel titled From Book to Film:

WoW Patch 3.1 Blessing of Wisdom & Mana Spring Totem change

Written by Medievaldragon on . Posted in Blizzard Games News, World of Warcraft News

The WoW developers are planning changes for mana regeneration and certain buffs in patch 3.1.0 by lowering down the amount of shamans and paladins required for a raid. They want raids to have an even amount of classes participating, rather than stacking 4-5 paladins or shamans.  Mana Spring will now benefit all the raid. Only one Shaman is now needed to benefit from that ability.

The major impact to how raids are usually done is that you can no longer stack mana regeneration. How is that?  From what Eyonix said, what can be understood is that Mana Spring Totem and Blessing of Wisdom will no longer stack.  So now the raid leader needs to synchronize which abilities must be used according to the raid’s class setup—depending on which classes are online at a given time.

If there is a shaman and a paladin, the way to go would be to have the shaman drop mana spring totem and the paladin to do blessing of kings.  If there are two paladins and no shaman, one will do Blessing of Kings and the second shall cast blessing of wisdom. The wrong way to go now is having a paladin cast wisdom and a shaman drop mana spring—both mana regen won’t stack, thus wasting a group buff.

This decision could probably benefit alchemists a tad in theory, as players will want to buy mana regen flasks more often than pre-patch 3.1.

We are making a change to these spells so that their benefits are exclusive in patch 3.1.0. The buffs will be equivalent, but will no longer stack. Mana Spring will affect the entire raid instead of just the shaman

PTR Testing Schedule Updated - March 13-18

Written by Medievaldragon on . Posted in Blizzard Games News, World of Warcraft News

It looks like double posting the news, but it is rather an update to the previous one.  A new PTR testing schedule update has been released.  Blizzard needs you to type /combatlog before engaging these bosses and then submit the log to them. The log may be found in your WoW folder within the logs folder. The numbering matches the date. To disable logging you can type oncreen again: /combatlog.

A) After the next PTR build goes live, you’ll see some Achievements in the list. Most all of these are not actually functional yet, and the list is not final.

PTR 3.1 Ulduar XT-002 Deconstructor

Written by Medievaldragon on . Posted in Blizzard Games News, Movies, World of Warcraft News

The XT-002 Deconstructor boss can be found at the Scrapyard in Ulduar. He uses an altered version of the Void Walker model. If that doesn’t chill your spine, with the dread memories, nothing will.  He has a very funny movement sub-routine: after he patrols back and forth, he will stand by the stairs to do exercises. To get ready to pull, wait until he moves either to the left or right side.  Then move all your players to the center. The tank must pull him and position him on top of the stairs by its center. The farthest he is from the scrapyard piles the better.

All players must stand together, stacking on top of each other.  This boss is like Tempest Keep: The Eye’s High Astromancer Solarian.  Players need to wake up and be alert if they don’t want their leader yelling and cussing. This video had to be slightly edited for that reason (for lack of options to edit sound).  When Deconstructor casts Light Bomb, you will be visibly surrounded by a yellowish glow that flashes every tick. Easy to see. It will cause up to 3000 damage to all nearby players within 10 yards for 9 seconds. The player must run either left or right, then return to where the players are stacking at.

At random, a player will be affected by Gravity Bomb. This one is very, very important to be alert with. It is an irregular-shaped purplish bubble surrounding the target, and after a short length of time it will attract all nearby players to the target and explode for up to 21000 damage. This is pretty much overkill for most cloth and leather class players, including holy paladins.

The one ability healers need to be alert with is the Tympanic Tantrum (Earthquake) which causes a lot of damage over time, and will kill anyone that is low in health. Healers need to know when to cast AOE heals, that includes Paladins. Holy Light is a mild AOE heal. Use it. Priests should spam AOE heals. Shamans should focus chain heal, and everyone else should place HOTs on everyone they can.

When Phase two kicks in, Deconstructor will stop all attacks and stand still. You will see huge sparks coming off him, and landing far away to each of the four scrapyard piles. A bunch of bots will spawn ranging three types of bots.  The first target range players need to kill are obviously the bomb shaped ones: XE-321 Boombot. These can do up to 13000 damage to all nearby players.

However, the ones you should also watch out for—make sure you assign players to take care of them—are the XS-013 Scrapbots.  These will merge with Deconstructor, healing him. You really don’t want this to happen. As you will see in our video, the raid players were close to kill him after 11 minutes, but he went into enrage mode wiping us.  If these Scrapbots heal him, you better call it and reset to save time, because most likely he will enrage. The phases are rinse and repeat until he dies. Train your guild players to take care of the boombots and scrapbots, and to run when they should during Light Bomb and Gravity Bomb, and this boss will surely be cake. Just needs coordination.

XT-002 Deconstructor abilities:

  • Gravity Bomb: Charges the target with dark energy (the gravity well), causing them to explode and pull in nearby allies after 9 sec. This sucks people in, so stay away from others! It creates Gravity Well on the player: This pulls various players within 10 yards and deals up to 21000 damage.
  • Light Bomb: Charges the target with divine energy, causing them to sear nearby allies for 9 sec. Inflicts up to 3000 damage per tick to nearby allies.
  • Tympanic Tantrum: Deals 10% damage every 1 sec for 12 sec. Nearby enemies are also dazed for the duration. This is an earthquake effect when he punches his fists onto the ground.

On phase two he stops attacking and you will see big sparks launching off him toward the four scrap piles in the area. This will spawn three types of mobs in large numbers.:

  • XS-013 Scrapbot: These must be killed soon before they reach the boss. They are absorbed by the boss to repair itself.
  • XM-024 Pummeler: They do the least damage, causing 2000 damage with Arcing Smash.
  • XE-321 Boombot: These must be your primary target. Need to be max dps’ed. Otherwise they inflict up to 13000 damage to all nearby players.

Recent In-Game Fixes 3-10-09

The WoW Developers have applied very welcome fixes to the Ring of Valor Arena that will allow players to reduce their damage taken during fear or roots.  The flame wall was an exploitable mechanic for druids who would root players at the right moment and place to cause players to get flame wall damage without the ability to move away from it.  Fear could also cause players to take excessive damage with Flame Wall.

Now players can start fighting as soon as the elevator reaches to the top. The gates that used to surround the elevator have been removed.

  • The flame wall in the Ring of Valor arena will now be able to break spells like fear and roots after a player takes damage.
  • The gates in the Ring of Valor arena have been removed so players are now free to begin combat as soon as the elevators reach the floor of the arena.
  • We modified the small side pillars in the Ring of Valor arena to start in the up position instead of rising up a few seconds after the start of the match.

CrossOver Games Support For DirectX 10 Linux and Mac Soon

Written by Medievaldragon on . Posted in Blizzard Games News, Diablo 3 News, StarCraft 2 News, Starcraft: Ghost News, World of Warcraft News

I rarely post news outside the Blizzard games scope, but I thought this one was very interesting to share with Mac and Linux Blizzard gamers. Codeweaver—developer of the CrossOver Games—announced their roadmap for 2009 highlighted by their support of DirectX 10 right out of the box.—Full Article.

We’ve just shipped a lot of those ‘under the hood’ improvements for games out in CrossOver Games 7.2. We’re really pushing Direct X 9 support pretty far along, and getting ready to move on Direct X 10.

In the next few months, we’ll be shipping CrossOver Linux 8.0, and CrossOver Mac 8.0. That revision of our flagship product will bring support for IE7, modern QuickBooks versions, Quicken 2009 (at a nice speed), Photoshop CS3, and many many other improvements, particularly around Microsoft Office and specifically Outlook. —via Slashdot
