Blizzplanet got an exclusive call from Aaron Rosenberg to announce that on August 2007, Blizzard Entertainment and Simon & Schuster Pocketbooks will release his latest book …

WORLD OF WARCRAFT: TIDES OF DARKNESS

This is a great news to the loyal Warcraft lore fans who have hoped to see Blizzard novelize the previous Warcraft games.  And Blizzard is delivering …  first we have Rise of the Horde from Christie Golden pre-Warcraft: Orcs and Humans.  Now we have a close up into the events of Warcraft 2: Tides of Darkness.  This new book by Aaron Rosenberg makes sense with the expansion World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade.

In Warcraft 2: Tides of Darkness, the Horde invaded Azeroth once more.  Warchief Orgrim Doomhammer, sent some forces to Zul’Dare isle to study the defenses of the Alliance. From Zul’Dare, spies reported to Orgrim of prisoners kept well guarded in Hillsbrad.  This gave the opportunity to the Horde to gain allies … as the prisoners were Zul’jin and some of his Amani trolls.

With the help of troll enforcements, the Blackrock Clan was able to build a shipyard and foundry operation near Southshore with the trollish defense. This allowed the Horde to destroy Hillsbrad and access to transports to sail across the ocean to hit several human settlements.

Meanwhile, the Blacktooth Grin Clan destroyed Tol Barad isle and defended Dun Modr from Stromgarde and Stormwind’s forces. In Badlands, Chogall the Ogre-Mage sought the oil refinery operations in the Badlands, protected by the Twilight’s Hammer Clan.

With the oil support, the Horde’s Blacktooth Grin Clan was able to siege the northern lands of Quel’Thalas, but to do so they had to eliminate Stromgarde’s defenses. Through their journey toward the northern lands, Gul’dan and the Blackrock Clan found one of the mythic Elven Runestones at a fortress in the vecinity of Darrowmere Lake (what later would be called Scholomance). The runestone’s magic allowed Gul’dan the creation of a most fearful army of mutated ogre-magi warlocks.

With the employment of Ogre-magi to defend a new fortress, near Tyr’s Hand, the Blacktooth Grin laid siege to any alliance fleet cutting off the Human supply lines into Quel’thalas. And destroying Stratholme’s refineries and shipyards, they cut off oil supply to the Alliance.  Ready to engage the elven kingdom of Quel’Thalas, Gul’dan rose his newest army against the unsuspecting high elves … the Death Knights.  Risen from the corpses of brave Alliance knights, and filling them with the spirits of the Shadow Council as their new vessel. Quel’Thalas was decimated, but Orgrim Doomhammer was informed of a betrayal from within at the highest peak of their victorious rampage … Gul’dan and his Stormreaver Clan had allied with the Twilight’s Hammer clan to set sail west toward the Tomb of Sargeras … seeking power untold of.

Orgrim’s forces halted their attack on the Alliance to hunt down Gul’dan and his forces, just to find Gul’dan annihilated by demons within the temple hosting the Tomb of Sargeras.  Thereafter, the Horde sieged Dalaran, obliterating the Violet Citadel fortress with Orgrim’s new weapon: Red Dragons.

At this point, I haven’t squeezed anything from Aaron Rosenberg to know what the book is about.  However, that book cover showing a red dragon atop an Alliance Ship with the Lordaeron Emblem … points toward the plot of the book to be set in Warcraft 2: Tides of Darkness game’s timeframe.

Will we see most of what I just summarized?  Will we see Chogall, Zul’jin, King Terenas, Uther the Lightbringer, Admiral Proudmoore, the dead of Proudmoore’s eldest son, Zuluhed the Whacked, and other characters of the era?  We will find out soon … as you … the fan … will be able to ask what this new book is about.  Aaron Rosenberg will talk to the fans soon in a public Q&A.  I will announce the day and time very soon … so stay tuned.
