It seems the Opening of the Gates of Ahn’Qiraj event is far more than fans realized. According to Caydiem—Community Manager of World of Warcraft—something will happen in various locations of Azeroth around the same time the gates are opened. No one knows for sure, but this seems to be some sort of World Event similar to that happened at the end of Open Beta where all towns and cities were attacked by waves of mobs. This is speculation, but judge yourself by reading the message below.
Caydiem: “We’re aware that many realm communities are becoming excited as the War Effort nears completion. Several players, wanting to see the event, have created alternate characters on the realms closest to completion and have trekked out to Silithus in order to bear witness. While we respect your enthusiasm, we do need to take steps in order to allow the realm communities who have worked for this completion to be able to enjoy the fruits of their labors.
As such, we are temporarily shutting down character creation on Medivh and Mannoroth. If you have characters there already, you will be able to create new ones without a problem, but those without characters will not be able to create new avatars on these realms until the event is complete. We may implement additional measures as the situation warrants. This should hopefully cut down on the latency experienced by large crowds and allow the industrious communities of these two realms to experience the opening of the gates.
Keep in mind, also, that there’s more to see than just Silithus when the event unfolds—there’s no need to gather all in one place. Keep your eyes and ears out for events around the world!”

Starcraft Ghost: Nova
We are sending this Monday the questions for a pending interview to Keith R.A. DeCandido. If you wish to find out more of the upcoming Starcraft Ghost: Nova Novel Pocketbook feel free to submit your questions. The submissions will be considered and added to the roster of questions for the interview. We want to make our visitors and community an integral part of our Q&As and interviews.
The upcoming novel will explore the background of Nova, a ghost serving the Terran Dominion leader Arcturus Mengsk.
Keith R.A. DeCandido: “This forthcoming game, Starcraft: Ghost, will be Blizzard’s first first-person shooter. When one plays the game, one is a character named Nova, a highly trained telepathic assassin. My novel, Nova—which will be released when the game is—will give that character’s full backstory: how she discovered she was telepathic, her trials and tribulations after the death of her family, and her eventual recruitment into the Ghost Program. All of this is amidst the backdrop of the ongoing Starcraft game story of humans of the future dealing with two different alien invaders.”
Since the novel book is coming out near the game release, we might assume the release of Starcraft: Ghost the game is in the horizon. The Novel book, according to DeCandido is a prequel to Blizzard’s FPS Game, Starcraft: Ghost. Blizzard recently updated a new page showing the story behind the female ghost operative, Nova. Read the Story.

Cycle of Hatred
We are sending this Monday the questions for a pending interview to Keith R.A. DeCandido. If you wish to find out more of the upcoming World of Warcraft: Cycle of Hatred Novel Pocketbook feel free to submit your questions. The submissions will be considered and added to the roster of questions for the interview. We want to make our visitors and community an integral part of our Q&As and interviews.
Keith R.A. DeCandido: “At the end of Warcraft 3 and Warcraft 3X, humans and orcs were allies on the continent of Kalimdor. But in World of Warcraft, the two sides are enemies again. My task with the novel Cycle of Hatred, to be released in February, was to help explain that change. It takes place during the four-year gap between the two games, and involves the humans on Kalimdor lead by Lady Jaina Proudmoore and the orcs on the same continent lead by Thrall. Of all the characters in the Warcraft universe, I found Jaina and Thrall to be two of the three most compelling characters. Jaina is a powerful female wizard, who is put in a position of leading a small group of humans in a hostile land in the wake of a brutal war against a demon horde. Thrall is an orc raised by humans as a slave, who leads a rebellion of orcs against human bondage, and inspires the orcs to return to their old ways before they were cursed by demons. Both leaders are trying to forge a new future, moving past the old hatreds. Unfortunately, the old hatreds don’t die easily. (If you’re wondering who the third character is, you’ll have to read the book to find out—the character is also in the book, but who it is is a surprise. *big grin*)”
Details to know:
- The book is set 3 years after the Battle of Mount Hyjal
- Admiral Proudmoore died at Northwatch Keep, The Barrens
We got ahold of an excerpt of the book for your visual and mind-boggling-drooling delight. Read below . . .

This was really a fast bugfix update. Patch 1.9.2 is available now and won’t require realm restarts. How sweet!
At midnight PST on January 12th (approximately four hours from now), we will be issuing a small client-side patch to address the issue of “stuttering” player movement. There will be no realm restarts involved, however it will require players to restart the game to download the patch. We have developed and released this correction as quickly as possible and apologize for the disruption of play this issue may have caused
- Characters should no longer appear to “pop” around terrain. Movement should be smoother once again.

The World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade Video Tour 1 over at Gamespot shows the room of our exclusive screenshot—shown at BlizzCon 2005.
It seems Sargeras/Medivh had a Michael Angelo-esque Artist create a Fresco-painting of Orchish angels on the ceiling.
We recommend reading the book Warcraft: The Last Guardian by Jeff Grubb before The Burning Crusade expansion to appreciate the depth of this fabulous Tower’s history and lore. The quests in this instance will be mind-blowing with such rich lore. You may read an excerpt from the book: Chapter 9: Sands in the Hourglass to get a feeling of the book.

Gamasutra interviewed Hamagami/Carroll principal and co-founder Justin Carroll, delving into the origins of his company’s work in the video game business, and its relationship with major players such as Blizzard. Hamagami/Carroll company was the creator of all Warcraft logos and other Blizzard games’ logos.
GS: I’m currently looking at your logos for Warcraft, and I was wondering how you came about the look of each logo specifically.
JC: Blizzard is another long-term relationship we’ve had, that connection came through the educational software thing. You asked a question before?what were some of the first packages we did?I think some of the first packages we did were for Warcraft, because we worked with Davidson Associates which was an educational software company and they bought Blizzard, so we started doing those titles because they were a part of Davidson, and that was what segued us into the video game industry?that and our experience in entertainment and toys.
With those logos, we worked directly with the marketing department, but there’s also access to Blizzard people as well. And they are very particular, as with Id. Blizzard and Id are very similar in that they are very into what they do. So everything that you do, a lot of the challenge is just making sure that you’re pleasing the developer, because they’re so immersed in it that anything that’s just not absolutely on the money stands out like a sore thumb. We used to do packaging for all the Blizzard titles, now they do it in-house I believe and we just do the logos. And if you look at the World of Warcraft logo, that’s almost a whole package into itself.
Two new realms were added to the World of Warcraft US Servers:
