Starcraft won Walk of Game Star

Starcraft recently won the Walk of Game Award recognizing the best legends in the video games industry. A star to Starcraft will be unveiled later during 2006 at the Metreon Building in San Francisco. Since its debut in 1998, the #1-selling StarCraft series has won industry acclaim and has shattered sales records worldwide with over nine million copies sold. Blizzard continued the series with the critically acclaimed StarCraft: Brood War?, which won multiple Expansion Pack of the Year awards and is still considered by many critics to be one of the best add-on products to date.

Walk of Game is the first-of-its-kind landmark honoring the icons and pioneers of the videogame industry.

Walk of Game is located inside Metreon, a 350,000 square-foot entertainment complex at Fourth and Mission Streets in the heart of downtown San Francisco.

Every year, gamers worldwide cast their vote on to induct the next set of honorees to receive a permanent 24″x 24”, customized steel star on the Walk of Game. From the list of nominees, the top four in the category of Games/Characters and the top two in Lifetime Achievement will be inducted.

The list of nominees is compiled from a survey of industry members and technology, entertainment, and gaming media. SCA Interactive, a leader in online promotions, powers the Walk of Game voting interface.

Ex-Diablo Launch Hyporeal Games

Ex-employees of Blizzard North, involved in Diablo franchise, have launched their own Game Developer Studio under the name Hyporeal Games.  They are already developing a new game named Starfall.  Michio Okamura was Art Director and Lead Artist—created all characters visuals of Diablo and Diablo II, including how Diablo looks like.  Eric Sexton – game designer that worked with Okamura’s art, animating in computer most of the NPCs, and co-creator of the Random Item system. Finally Steven Woo—designer of Diablo and Diablo II User interface and responsible for localization work for game release and patching. The Blizzard legacy has sprung many new Game Studios: Red 5 Studios, Nihilistic, Flagship Studios, Castaway Entertainment, and others.

Their game seems to be focused on a futuristic RPG-based scenario for PC.  No further info was made available.

Tigole: Grim Batol Instance

Grim Batol hasn’t been mentioned in ages, but I wanted to share some quotes from Tigole back when Wow Beta Forums was online.

Tigole – Dec 7, 2003
The eastern section of Wetlands is reserved for a special, max level quest event. The event is not currently in the beta.

For those of you interested with the lore of that area, read the novel, Day of the Dragon. That’s Grim Batol at the top of the hill there… You can also see the wrecked orc caravan >=]

Tigole – Dec 3, 2003
The locked doors to Grim Batol lie at the top of the red dragon gauntlet in northeastern Wetlands. This is the one area of the Wetlands that is not yet populated with creatures. We have very specific plans for this area >=)

For those of you familiar with Warcraft lore, you’ll notice the remains of the orc caravan which the red dragon flight destroyed in *Day of the Dragon* not far from Grim Batol.

Hopefully we get more updated info of Grim Batol.  This is one of the few instances that a Dev dared to speak during Closed Beta, yet no further info was revealed.  Other places mentioned to be in development were Nazjatar, and the Emerald Dream.

Get the novel Warcraft: Day of the Dragon—by Richard A. Knaak.

Warcraft 2: Tides of Darkness

Finally got Warcraft II Edition.  I have added the Horde Campaign of Tides of Darkness on our left menu under Warcraft II Section.  After I’m done with the Alliance Campaign sometime tonight, I will resume adding Frozen Throne’s Alliance and Undead Campaigns.  While doing that, I will start playing the Beyond the Dark Portal game to bring you its campaigns too.

This may take a while to do, so bear with me.  For now it will be only text.  Later on, I will update images.  I already ordered Warcraft: Orcs and Humans—so expect that one too at some point.

Tempest Keep in Outland

Tigole slipped few details of one of the upcoming instances of World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade expansion. Outland will have 5-man-based instances for casual and hardcore players, allowing you to grow to level 70 at your own pace.  However, the instance is still in development and the info was limited.  What we do get to glimpse is that small groups are going to get a nice treat.

Tigole: “Tempest Keep is a dungeon in a zone called Netherstorm featured in the upcoming expansion, The Burning Crusade. It’s a max level dungeon with 4 wings. 3 of the wings are 5-person normal, max level dungeons (like Dire Maul is now). One of the wings is a raid encounter.

Keep in mind, this dungeon is still in development so I am a bit reluctant to post information about it, as things are likely to change.”

Wow: Ahn’Qiraj Screenshots

The Test Servers are up and the gates of Ahn’Qiraj are open for all adventurers to explore and seize. We have a few selected screenshots of some units and bosses from the 20-raid instance. General Rajaxx is in this instance, and looks to be a good fight.  Players can acquire their own epic-mount which is a Silithid.  It looks georgeous and moves and jumps very nice. However, you can only use the special mount within Ahn’Qiraj.  Oozes roam the halls of Ahn’Qiraj patrolling along with the mechanical units of Warcraft III: Frozen Throne—the Obsidian Destroyers. Check out the screenshots below:

I recommend reading it the full book.  Tower of Medivh will be released in the World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade expansion. Read the Excerpt.

Frozen Throne: Night Elf Campaign Lore

As promised, we added the in-game text and lore from the first campaign of Frozen Throne, the Night Elf Campaign: Terror of the Tides.  We only added the text. Later on, during the next weeks we will update them with images, and more NPC details.

Once we are done with Frozen Throne, next in schedule is Reign of Chaos, Warcraft II: Tides of Darkness, Warcraft II: Beyond the Dark Portal, and Warcraft: Orcs and Humans.  We wish to make Blizzplanet one your main sources of Warcraft Lore. For now you can read the in-game narrated text of each campaign Here

Upcoming Lore Content

My apologies for the recent downtime in news/content.  As you can read below the programmer has been busy. We moved Blizzplanet to a new server, and he made few changes, forgetting to double-check everything was working before departing.  I took the time to play Warcraft III: Frozen Throne while not able to post news or content.  And Im half through writing down some new content for Blizzplanet.

I hope it will make up for the long wait.  You will be able to read in-game lore from Frozen Throne and images, once I am done. Every few days I will be releasing chunks per Campaign.  I already have the Elf Campaign written down.  Only need to convert it to HTML.

I recently ordered Warcraft II: Tide of Darkness and Warcraft II: Beyond the Dark Portal, along with Warcraft: Orcs and Human. So expect Blizzplanet to have some good source of Warcraft Lore.  Many World of Warcraft fans are craving for this type of content, and I will work hard to bring it to you.  Stay tuned for the announcements on our new Public Q&A on IRC chat.  This time it will be with Jeff Grubb – author of Warcraft: The Last Guardian.  We will have a day/time available either by the end of November or first week of December, so check us out, and start thinking of good questions for Jeff Grubb.

The Q&A with Luke Johnson was a blast and at the end, fans could make questions to him.  Although some couldn’t be answered due to NDA limitation on what they can talk about,  there was some interesting answers.  To read the transcript, visit our Lore Forums over at to find out more of Luke Johnson and the content of the upcoming World of Warcraft RPG books line:

Gameinformer interviews Steve Ranck

There is a very cool interview of Starcraft: Ghost between Gameinformer Magazine Editor Adam Biessener and Blizzard/Swingin’Ape Studios Steve Ranck—Vice President of Console Development.  Two subject that highlight the interview are that Protoss will be a Multiplayer fully playable race and that Nova has more psionic abilities that have not been revealed yet!

“If you run and gun through Ghost, you can probably make it through, but you?re going to have a hard time.  The player has to think like a Ghost.  How would Nova play this game?  How would she get through this situation?  She would not cloak the entire time.  Cloaking requires energy, and just like in the RTS her suit will run out of energy.  You don?t want to cloak the entire time ? here there?s some light infantry ? you can take those guys.  Suddenly a Marine walks in, a Firebat, or four light infantry, and now it becomes serious.  Now it might be the time to raise it up to the next notch, cloak, and use that ability.  You might want to think about when to use her reflex ability, her psionic abilities that we haven?t announced yet.  These are all part of her arsenal.

We?re trying to give the player the complete experience on what it?s like to be a Ghost.  So the balance there is really up to the player.  If they want to play action, they really can.  You can play cloaked a lot, and stay behind the scenes.  You can actually make it through entire levels without ever being seen.  It?s a little on the difficult side but you can do that.”

Starcraft: Ghost cancelled on GameCube

On a move by Blizzard that makes many GameCube players uncomfortable, Blizzard updated the Starcraft: Ghost FAQ.  The game is planned for release sometime during Summer 2006 only for Playstation 2 and Xbox.  You may call it a rant, but I purchased the Gamecube last year expecting the release of Starcraft: Ghost.  Two weeks later, the game release was postponed.  A year later, here I am with a GameCube with no Starcraft: Ghost … Now I gotta think of getting a Playstation 2.  I am sure many have the same sentiment.  Plans for the Starcraft: Ghost changed when Swingin’ Ape Studios took the project, rebuilding the engine and implanting Multiplayer.  The game was originally meant to be single-player.  Nintendo has not yet developed a multiplayer online solution, which translates into shipping only for Playstation 2 and Xbox.  Hopefully, Nintendo finds a very late solution to the competition so that Blizzard can make a Gamecube release of Starcraft: Ghost.  Read the updated Starcraft: Ghost FAQ here

MicahW: ” Unfortunately the GameCube version of the game was decided to be dropped. In order to provide the game envisioned by the console team a set and readily available online solution was needed. Unfortunately the GameCube has no online service and since so much work is going in to the online portion, it would be additional work to release only part of the intended game. Nintendo systems certainly aren’t something that we are against supporting. Blizzard in its entirety is based upon earlier games for Nintendo systems. The GameCube and Revolution will still be cosidered for future products, unfortunately Ghost will only be made available on the Xbox and PS2 at this time.”

Sarah McKerrigan: Lady Danger Novel

Glynnis Talken—voice of Kerrigan in Starcraft—has great news for her Medieval Romance writer career to share with her fans.  Sarah Michelle Gellar has endorsed her first novel LADY DANGER.  We have the cover of her new book to be published by Time/Warner on April 2006.

I have some very exciting news this month.  My agent has managed to garner an endorsement for my first Sarah McKerrigan novel from Sarah Michelle Gellar of ?Buffy, the Vampire Slayer?!  Buffy definitely has something in common with Deirdre, my kick-butt heroine in LADY DANGER.  They’re both beautiful, powerful warriors, tough yet vulnerable.  And this valuable endorsement should help get copies of LADY DANGER flying off the shelves in April!  By the way, if you want a sneak peek at my book cover, visit  The site isn’t really up and running yet, but there’s a splash page for LADY DANGER.

In Loving Memory to Keith Parkinson

We are really in shock with the news.  Keith Parkinson—author of the Diablo II Limited Edition Print 24 x 34 has passed out on October 26th.  In memory to him visit his personal website to look at the work he created with passion.  Sigil Games offers a long message on their website as a final goodbye to a close friend.
