| A quest named Alas, Andorhal in Western Plaguelands |
Alas, Babylon - A novel by Pat Frank published in 1959. The subject deals with the effects of a nuclear war on a small Florida town.
Its name is derived from Revelation 18:10, which is interpreted and quoted in the book as describing the aftermath of a nuclear attack. In the King James Bible, this passage reads:
"Standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Alas, alas that great city Babylon, that mighty city! For in one hour is thy judgment come."

| In Darkshore, by the excavation located west of the Master's Glaive is a dwarf named Prospector Remtravel. The quest started by that NPC is titled "The Absent Minded Prospector". |
Reference to Disney's Flubber: Absent Minded Professor (1961) - remade in 1997 with Robin Williams.
Henry Crawford is the titular absent-minded professor busy at work in his laboratory. He has a girlfriend, but she is getting frustrated at his repeatedly missing their dates and spending more time with his experiments than with her. One day, Prof. Crawford makes an incredible discovery a form of rubber that defies gravity with each bounce, which he names Flubber. Hopefully, with this invention Crawford can prove to his love that he's not just a hopeless loser stuck doing dead-end research. |

| On the very South East corner of Hillsbrad south of Dun Garok there is a grave, with a Dwarf named Roush kneeling before it, standing up to salute. The Dwarf curiously wears a red armor. Reading the inscription it has a name: Anthony Ray Stark and dates 1961 to 2005. |
Some may think this is in reference to Anthony "Tony" Stark, the real name of Ironman (Marvel Comics, 1963) who debuted on Tales of Suspense #39 and has been one of the founding members of The Mighty Avengers comic book. In part, it is still a easter egg as the Dwarf has a red armor, and Ironman has a red armor too. There are a few Anthony Stark in real life. Some involved in early days of Phone Companies, or Filmography. However, Drysc - a World of Warcraft Forum Moderator and Blizzard employee commented on July 19, 2006 the following: "It's an in-game memorial for a friend of one of the developers".

Thanks, Tenchiro.
Reference: Carmageddon - This could also be a reference to the classic urban legend of the folks who attached a JATO engine to the back of their car, and, as the legend goes, were doing all right - until it came time to turn. The reality is, that this is completely bogus for any number of practical considerations. Details can be found here.
It's arguably the classic internet urban legend.

Sonny: I've come to take you out of here.
Kira: It can't be done. No one's ever taken anyone out of here. Not in the whole history of... the whole history!
Sonny: I'll make them let you go. Zeus! Zeus, you hear me?
Kira: Oh, God.
