The preview scans for World of WarCraft # 20 are now available highlighting the Scourge Invasion to Orgrimmar and Stormwind. The artwork is pretty good, and what may strike some fans as odd is that while the Alliance needed the assistance of Ironforge, including mercenary goblins to defeat the Scourge Invasion in Stormwind, Thrall single-handedly stroke down a Necropolis with the aid of his Doomhammer and the elemental spirits. Holy … I mean, Storm, Earth and Fire heed my call! Yeh-yea, Thrall faked his near-defeat before Garrosh Hellscream. Next month will be thrilling too with Cho’gall’s plans to resurrect C’thun unfolding, and the kidnapping of Garona by Vindicator Maraad. Could Vindicator Maraad be part of Garona’s bloodline or is he simply acting in response to a vision of the future granted by the Naaru? If all that doesn’t sound exciting I can’t imagine why you haven’t subscribed to the ongoing comic book series yet.

World of Warcraft # 16 arrived to my home today. In this issue, Thrall and Varian arrive to Theramore to meet Jaina Proudmoore and Magna Aegwynn. They wish to resume their negotiation, interrupted when King Varian was kidnapped by the Defias Brotherhood. We don’t get to see yet the meeting. However, we get to see what’s going on behind the scenes. It is awesome to see more lore continuity tips in this comic book. In this issue, we see Ahn’Qiraj temple. C’thun is mentioned to be dead. The Twilight’s Hammer and its leader are within C’thun chamber.
We find out that Valeera Sanguinar’s ancestor was a high elf mage member of the Council of Tirisfal who Aegwynn met. Thus, one of the reasons she is watching and protecting her. We will find out in upcoming issues more about the Emerald Dream status quo with the Nightmare as Broll has departed the peace summit in Theramore to assist Fandral in Teldrassil.
Garrosh Hellscream accompanies Thrall and Rehgar Earthfury to the Summit with King Varian Wrynn, which in itself might make some fans scratch their forehead. C’thun is dead and Garrosh is already in Kalimdor. This is clearly a sign that the comic book will very soon synch with Wrath of the Lich King, letting us know more of the behind the scenes details surrounding Northrend and its races; and the Lich King.

WORLD OF WARCRAFT #16

From the creative minds of Wildstorm’s World of Warcraft comic book writer Walter Simonson (Mighty Thor) and Chris Metzen, Blizzard has released a loregasmic preview teaser of World of Warcraft # 15. After King Varian Wrynn decapitated Onyxia’s corpse to display her head in Stormwind, Garona makes her appearance for the first time since the events from Warcraft: The Last Guardian. The preview reveals that shortly after Garona assassinated King Llane, she found out about her … pregnancy. She gave the baby to an ancient human mage, named Meryl, to raise him. It is now confirmed that Garona was cursed by Sargeras to betray and do things against her will. Therefore, she couldn’t bare to rise her own child for fear she would kill him.
This plot brings about so many intriguing questions. Who is the father of Garona’s baby? Medivh? Khadgar? King Llane? On the other hand, Meryl is described as undead, but one who has lived by sheer will and through the use of his own magical powers to prolong his life for milennia; he exists even before Ner’zhul created the Scourge. Is Meryl one of the previous Guardians of Tirisfal?
Garona’s baby has grown up, and there is a prophecy behind him found in a scroll digged from Hellfire Peninsula. This child is to become the savior of Azeroth. Do you feel the vibe that this guy, Med’an, is the heir of Medivh? Watch the PDF preview and get that HOT comic book at a newsstand near you!
This issue will be on newsstands on January 21.
In stores 1/21.
The road back to Theramore begins in issue #15 of the ongoing series. After the events of the last arc, King Varian and Prince Anduin must return home. But who will return with them? And what role will Garona Halforcen play in this next quest? Check out the preview pages.

Garona brings Twilight
DC Wildstorm Comics have provided us with solicitations for World of Warcraft # 17 (March 2009) where King Varian and Thrall will meet for the first time in Theramore. This will fill up the gap of what happened during The Battle for the Undercity questline. It seems Garona Halforcen has returned to make things worse for the Horde when a pact of peace is about to crumble, climaxing later on at the Wrathgate.
On another note, Wildstorm has also announced the World of Warcraft: Ashbringer # 1-4 comic book limited series will be reprinted as a hardcover on May 27, compiling all four issues within. Good news for those who missed the standalone issues. A reminder that the Ashbringer comic book was written by Blizzard Enrtertainment’s Creative Design team member: Micky Neilson, who also wrote The Road of Damnation (Kel’Thuzad), The Unbroken (Akama) and Starcraft: Uprising (Kerrigan).

PREVIEW

SPOILERS

So after the 5 page preview leaves off, the team is battling the Naga. Broll mentions that this is just like Dire Maul only for less money. Lo’Gosh moves to Valeera who makes nearly the same quip, illustrating how close they are becoming.
The Naga Siren leading the attack, Morgala Darksquall, gets upset that her guys are getting owned so badly. She summons up a huge Couatl (last seen in Warcraft III: Frozen Throne) to take care of business. In addition, she starts lobbing Arcane energy bursts from what looks to be an enchanted trident.
Broll gets scared that Valeera will absorb the arcane energy and succumb to her people’s addiction, but Valeera isn’t hearing it. The Sea Witch starts casting an arcane burst, but the Blood Elf leaps out at her and snags the weapon. Broll freaks out because now she has the tempting magical item in her grasp, so he jumps out after her. The nagas converge on him as he goes aquatic form, and Valeera uses the trident to kill them. Broll is angry she put herself in danger like that, but Valeera thinks arcane energy isn’t that bad. She says fear of it is just Night Elf superstition and even if it was dangerous it would have been worth the risk to save him. Broll breaks the trident and drops it to the bottom of the sea, then carries her back to the ship while they argue about it.
Meanwhile, Lo’Gosh nails the Couatl in the heart with a nearby harpoon. This inadvertently causes the beast to crash into the ship and do some damage. The sea witch says it was a lucky shot, and then recognizes him. She says he’s the same “grub” that they captured before. She goes for a forked lightning, but gets an elbow to the face for her troubles. He grabs her by the throat getting ready for the final swipe, but when he does he gets struck with another barrage of memory flashbacks…
He’s on an island getting attacked by Naga.
He’s dragged from a ship bound for Theramore. Looks like he’s being attacked by a blond human.
He’s crying at the funeral of his wife. The Queen is definitely dead.
He’s standing before Stormwind Nobles at his coronation. It looks like Katrana Prestor is there.
The siren is confused, and says she knew he was a weakling. However, it seems as if Lo’Gosh now really knows who he is. In a “This is Sparta!!!”-like moment he shouts: “I am King of Stormwind!”, mentions that nobody, not the naga, nor the scourge, nor the lords of the legion, will keep him from his people, then cuts his enemy in half. The other naga see this, and decide to make a tactical retreat.
The intensity even startles Broll and Valeera, but he assures them he’s both the King and the Gladiator, and will always be loyal to his friends. He commands they all get to work making repairs and healing the sailors so they can get back to the Eastern Kingdoms ASAP. Clouds are gathered above the ship in the shape of a massive wolf head, implying the spirit of the Demigod Lo’Gosh may indeed be with them.
Overall not a particularly groundbreaking issue, but it served as the final transition away from the Kalimdor story arc. It repeatedly showed Broll and Valeera willing to die to protect the other, they should just get it on already. It also cemented Varian’s knowledge of who he is. I’m not sure if all his memories are back, or if he got back just enough to make him even more focused, I guess we’ll find out next time.
