This is the first time in years I have ever heard a problem like this in a Blizzard game, but considering it is the first rare instance, it is outstanding. Yet it is a dire issue that might affect players in unpredictable ways. Beware and listen. Malicious software can be installed in your computer while playing Warcraft III UMS maps by other players. This is what Karune reported today.
|Warcraft III Custom Map Security Warning
We have identified an exploit that could allow malicious software to be spread through Warcraft III maps. We have applied a temporary fix to address this issue when playing on Battle.net, and we are working on a patch to permanently address the issue when playing on a LAN or playing single-player custom maps. In the meantime, we recommend that players avoid downloading maps from unofficial sources or websites they do not trust—be aware that corrupted maps may share the same name as other popular maps. If you encounter custom maps that no longer function or other issues related to this fix, please post details below.
A few months ago, on December, I interviewed Dick Hill, who voiced the Warcraft audiobooks for Tantor Media Audiobooks. The books were Warcraft: Day of the Dragon, Warcraft: The Last Guardian, Warcraft: Lord of the Clans and World of Warcraft: Beyond the Dark Portal.
As many have noticed, the Tantor website no longer lists these books since early January. Without going into many details, the audiobooks are postponed until further notice. The release of these audiobooks will be delayed for a while, but hopefully we will get an announcement of its new release dates. Note that it is not considered cancelled. Keep your hopes up.

Rob Pardo confirmed at the GDC 2009 that Blizzard Entertainment and Microsoft are talking about the Xbox 360 successor. And by the looks of it they want its successor to have a keyboard and mouse peripherals and tools to allow MMO and RTS gameplay on consoles. The potential is enormous. Imagine World of Warcraft, Starcraft: Ghost, Starcraft II and even Diablo III on PC and Consoles. It is the culprit of the Next-Gen MMO no doubt.
The future is looking brighter for Blizzard and all its millions of fans if Microsoft can pull the right cards off its sleeve and places them into the table to make it possible.
|Rob Pardo: “There are are so many games like we make at Blizzard that we don’t take to consoles because they don’t support the input device, and you end up with crappy ports. That’s why RTS games never do well on consoles,” he said.
“If I was them, I’d be sitting around trying to figure out what’s a cool input device that supports all types of new kinds of games.”—read more
Recently, Blizzard Entertainment added two job openings under the category titled Unannounced. I wrote an article about it a few days ago. We have now a few interesting bits concerning these job openings for a unannounced game.
Update: March 24—The job openings mentioned in this newspost is indeed a brand-new game that has not been mentioned before.
1. This brand-new game is not a World of Warcraft expansion, and it is not related to the Next-Gen MMO.
2. In the present, the brand-new game is using the World of Warcraft engine merely for testing purposes.
3. The Client Software Engineer job opening is to hire the person that will have the responsibility to develop an engine from scratch for this game. This new engine will be built depending on the skill and interest of the person hired for this position.
Whether this game is based on the three major franchises (Warcraft, Starcraft or Diablo) or a new IP, that remains unknown.
We encourage our readers who have the skills and fill the requirements for this job to step forward and submit a resume and code samples to email@example.com.

Recently, Blizzard Entertainment [finally] installed the massive bronze wolfrider statue at the center of the new headquarters in Irvine, California. The replicas were given to Blizzard employees a couple of years ago, and a very few were seen on eBay for auction. The OCRegister Blizzard Blog has eight exclusive photos showing the installation of the 12-feet tall statue.
This statue was developed by WETA Workshops, a New Zeland-based film special-effects company that has worked with Stephe Spielberg and Peter Jackson and have been involved in films such as Lord of the Rings, King Kong, I, Robot and X-Men 3—to name a few. Personally, I have a feeling WETA Workshops is knee-deep in the development of the World of Warcraft film. But that’s something that hasn’t been confirmed.
AT&T renewed their hosting agreement with Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. for online games over Battle.net and World of Warcraft servers. A press release is available.
