Burning Crusade - Caverns of Time: Old Hillsbrad - Ashbringer

Written by Medievaldragon on . Posted in Burning Crusade Story Arcs, WoW: Burning Crusade

Inside Caverns of Time: Old Hillsbrad you may find many known characters at the front room of the Southshore Inn. There are Commander Mograine, Tirion Fordring, Arcanist Doan, Abbendis, Isillien, Fairbank and others. Here Commander Mograine reveals an artifact he found in Blackrock Spire during the Second War … an artifact that would serve as material to build … Ashbringer.

Commander Mograine: Keep your voices down. There are strangers about … Brothers and sisters, I have called you here today to discuss the fate of Lordaeron.

(Commander Mograine lowers his voice to a whisper.)

I hear things … Things that should not be. I have heard that Northrend is lost …

(Gasps can be heard throughout the room)

Commander Mograine: We must stand at the ready. I have faced undead before. They are ruthless killing machines, devoid of any emotion or compassion.

(Tirion Fordring nods.)

Tirion Fordring: Aye, I’ve battled them as well. We are ill-prepared as a kingdom to withstand such an assault.

Arcanist Doan: What do you propose, Mograine?

Commander Mograine: Propose? I propose that we prepare. That we prepare our loved ones, family and friends for the possibility of an undead holocaust. And there is this …

(Mograine unlocks the chest)

Abbendis By the Light! What is it?

Commander Mograine: I have had this object in my possession for 10 years. Since Blackrock Spire … I wrested it free from the remains of an orc lieutenant – a dark caster … It is from their homeworld. Do not get too close. I laid a hand upon it once … Only once and never again. The memories of that day still linger.

(Commander Mograine removes the gauntlet from his right arm and shows everyone his mangled hand.)

Commander Mograine: I surmise that this object is the living embodiment of shadows … darkness … It is a manifestation. It is a void.

Isillien: I do not see how this evil artifact is relevant to the undead. We must destroy it!

(Commander Mograine shakes his head)

Commander Mograine: No, old friend, it is very relevant. Let me ask you this, brothers and sisters: Can good exist without evil? Can there be light without dark? And if that answer is no, then could it be possible that because this artifact exists, its polar opposite must also exist? Could you imagine what the material manifestation of the Light could do against the undead?

Isillien: Nonsense, Mograine! It must be destroyed!

(Shock then silence overtakes the crowd)

NOTE: As you may view in the screenshots and video, all of them start casting Holy magic at the dark crystal.

Commander Mograine: It consumed the Light!

Tirion Fordring: Impossible!

Fairbank: Is … Is it getting lighter? Its coloration … It is changing.

Commander Mograine: BY THE LIGHT! Could it be? Could this be it? I must know … I will know.

(Commander Mograine reaches out to touch the light crystal.)

NOTE: An electric charge strikes at Mograine from within the crystal.

Commander Mograine: I … It … It is beautiful. What I felt when I touched it … The Light coursed through me and I through it … It healed my spirit.

Isillien: Your hand! It is healed!

(Mograine puts the crystal back inside the chest)

Commander Mograine: Let us never again speak of this day. Our enemies are many. They need not know we hold such artifacts. I have seen it … From this blessed crystal we will forge a weapon. This weapon will hold inside it a piece of each of us … And when it is used against undead, it shall cast them down. And in its wake, it will leave only ashes …

Tirion Fordring: The Ashbringer …

Arcanist Doan: The Ashbringer …

Fairbank: The Ashbringer …

Abbendis The Ashbringer …

Isillien: The Ashbringer …

Burning Crusade - Caverns of Time - Taretha’s Diversion

Written by Medievaldragon on . Posted in Burning Crusade Story Arcs, WoW: Burning Crusade

Erozion: Taretha was integral in Thrall’s survival and upbringing and instrumental in shaping Thrall’s life.

It was Taretha who created the original diversion at Durnholde, allowing Thrall to escape.

Now the Infinite have captured Taretha and hold her at Tarren Mill. The diversion will not happen without our involvement. You must use the incendiary devices that I give you and burn down the internment lodges in Durnholde. When you have done this, speak with young Thrall in the basement prison of Durnholde.

Quest Objectives

Travel to Durnholde Keep and set 5 incendiary charges at the barrels located inside each of the internment lodges using the Pack of Incendiary Bombs given to you by Erozion.

Speak to Thrall in the basement prison of Durnholde Keep when you have the internment Lodges Set Ablaze.

Brazen the bronze dragon: When you are ready to fly to Durnholde, let me know and I shall take you.

NOTE: You must be dismounted before talking to Brazen. He will be your flying mount, transporting you to Durnholde Keep. After setting the internment lodges ablaze, Lieutenant Drake comes out.

Lieutenant Drake: You there, fetch water quickly! Get these flames out before they spread to the rest of the keep! Hurry, damn you! I know what you’re up to, and I mean to put an end to it, permanently! Time to bleed!

(After defeating the Lieutenant he says: Thrall … must not … go.)

NOTE: Go to Durnholde Keep’s basement. There you will find young Thrall inside a cage.

Thrall: You are friends of Taretha? So this is her new plan? Very well then …

ESCAPE FROM DURNHOLDE

Thrall: You look upon me now and see only a boy, but in my heart and soul I hide my dreams. I have plans for my people, stranger. One day, they shall overthrow their oppressors and rise as one. They will break free from the bonds that hold them and from that uprising shall be born the orcish Horde.

I promise you, stranger, should we make it out of here alive, when I have the means to reward this selfless deed, I will seek you out … I will find you.

(Thrall nods.)

We will leave when you are ready.

Quest Objectives

When you are ready to proceed, let Thrall know. Follow Thrall out of Durnholde Keep and help him free Taretha and fulfill his destiny.

Speak with Erozion in Old Hillsbrad should you complete this task.

Thrall: Very well then, Let’s go!

NOTE: Thrall will walk fast, so keep up. He will go to the Armory upstairs, and punches the armory clerk.

Durnholde Armorer: What’s the meaning of this? GUARDS!

NOTE: Thrall punches him, and steals some armor and weapons and runs outside.

Thrall: That’s enough out of him. As long as we’re going with a new plan, I may as well pick up a weapon and some armor.

NOTE: Outside, you get ambushed by at least four soldiers: warden, rifleman, and two veteran. You get at least three ambushes. One outside the Keep, another near the bridge, and after the bridge. Then a boss with two adds outside the gates of Durnholde.

NOTE: If Thrall dies, Erozion says: My magical power can turn back time to before Thrall’s death, but be careful. My power to manipulate time is limited.

Captain Skarloc: Thrall! You didn’t really think you would escape, did you? You and your allies shall answer to Blackmoore … after I’ve had my fun.

NOTE: When the battle is over, Thrall seeks to speaks to you.

Thrall: Thank you friends, I owe my freedom to you. Where is Taretha? I hoped to see her one last time and thank her before leaving into the mountains.

> Taretha cannot see you, Thrall.

Thrall: What do you mean by this? Is Taretha in danger?

> The situation is rather complicated, Thrall. It would be best for you to head into the mountains now, before more of Blackmoore’s men show up. We’ll make sure Taretha is safe.

Thrall: Very well. Tarren Mill lies just west of here. Since time is of the essence …

NOTE: Thrall mounts a horse, and gallops away. It is possible to find neutral Lordaeron guards on the road that will aggro Thrall. You have to fight them. Thrall mounts again and rides to the right of the bridge toward Tarren Mill’s barn.

Thrall: Tarren Mill lies beyond these trees. The commotion at Durnholde should give us a little time to find Taretha before the entire countryside is flooded with human soldiers. Let’s check the nearby barn, then head into town.

> We ‘re ready, Thrall.

NOTE: Thrall enters the Barn of Tarren Mill. A voice can be heard outside.

Tarren Mill Lookout: I thought I saw something go into the barn.

Tarren Mill Protector: I didn’t see anything.

(Thrall tries to calm the horse down.)

Tarren Mill Lookout: Something riled that horse. Let’s go!

NOTE: You are ambushed inside the barn. Afterwards, Thrall walks fast toward the Church, where a new ambush awaits. Make sure to drink between fights.

Tarren Mill Lookout: Thrall’s trapped himself in the chapel. He can’t escape now.

NOTE: The ambush is over.

Thrall: I did not ask for this! Taretha must be in the inn. Let’s go.

NOTE: When trying to reach the Inn, you get another ambush by mobs coming from outside the Inn. Taretha is on the second floor.

Taretha: Thrall, you escaped!

Thrall: Taretha! What foul magic is this?

Taretha: Thank you for helping Thrall escape, friends. Now I only hope you can help me as well. I awoke this morning to find myself trapped in this magical prison. A strange wizard told me that I would have to stay here for a while.

> Strange wizard?

Taretha: Yes, friends. This man was no wizard of Dalaran. His clothes looked quite foreign, and his accent was unfamiliar. All he could mumble about was time this, time that. You’ll have to find that wizard and convince him to release me.

> We’ll get you out. Taretha. Don’t worry. I doubt the wizard would wander too far away.

(You will fight Infinity Dragonkin, and then the final boss – a Infinity Drake named Epoch Hunter).

Epoch Hunter: Thrall! Come outside and face your fate! Not so fast! You cannot fight fate! Struggle as much as you like … No! The master will … not be pleased!

Thrall: I will not waste this chance. I will seek out my destiny.

Taretha: I’m free! Thank you all!

Thrall: I’m glad you’re safe, Taretha. None of this would have been possible without your friends. They made all of this happen. I’m free! Thank you all!

Taretha: Thrall, I’ve never met these people before in my life.

Thrall: Then who are these people?

Erozion: I believe I can explain everything to you two if you give me a moment of your time. (casts) That spell should wipe hteir memories of us and what just happened. All they should remember now is what reality would be like without hte attempted temporal interference. Well done. Thrall will journey on to find his destiny, and Taretha … Her fate is regrettably unavoidable.

Thrall: Goodbye, Taretha. I will never forget your kindness.

Taretha: They call you a monster. But they’re the monsters, not you. Farewell, Thrall.

Erozion: You have done a great thing. Alas, the young warchief’s memory of these events must be as they originally were … Andormu awaits you in the master’s lair.

RETURN TO ANDORMU

Erozion: This timeline has been restored and for now, the assault of the Infinite Dragonflight upon Hillsbrad has been quashed.

Return to Andormu at once. He awaits your arrival in the master’s lair.

Quest Objectives

Return to child, Andormu, at the Caverns of Time in the Tanaris desert.

Andormu: Please accept a gift from the bronze flight. These items will assist you in your journeys through time.

Burning Crusade - Caverns of Time - Old Hillsbrad

Written by Medievaldragon on . Posted in Burning Crusade Story Arcs, WoW: Burning Crusade

Andormu: To the west is the timeway to Hillsbrad of the past – 7 years to be exact.

Forces are working against the Horde warchief, Thrall, attempting to prevent him from ever escaping Durnholde Keep.

If Thrall never escapes, this world – as you know it – will cease to exist.

Gather a group of adventurers and take the timeway to old Hillsbrad.  Two of our agents await you inside.

Speak with Erozion on the other side.

Quest Objectives

Andormu at the Caverns of Time has asked that you venture to Old Hillsbrad and speak with Erozion.

INTRO

Erozion: You must use the incendiary bombs at the barrels inside the internment lodges of Durnhold Keep.  Once five bombs have been ignited and the diversion has been set, find Thrall in the basement prison of Durnholde and set him free.  Follow him and make sure that he does not die!

OLD HILLSBRAD (Part 2)

Erozion: Our worst fears might soon be realized.  The forces at work behind this temporal disturbance are a new flight of dragons known as the Infinite.  We do not know where they came from or why they are destroying timeways.

In this pocket of time, they have kidnapped Taretha Foxton, daughter of Tammis Foxton, the secretary of Aedelas Blackmoore, ruler of Durnholde and overseer of all internment camps on Azeroth.

NOTE: This is the first quest inside the Old Hillsbrad instance. However, many a curious fan will skip it to explore how Hillsbrad looked like in the past. Don’t bother going west. You will get a blue haze blinding your sight if you go too far. The gate of Thoradin Wall is closed. There is a blockade of rocks on the path to Hinterlands. The Ravenholdt Manor cave doesn’t exist yet. To the north, the Alterac Kingdom has a wall and a gate blocking your path. Dun Garok – the dwarves stronghold – will greet you with its gates closed. So stick with Tarren Mill, Southshore and Durnholde Keep for your exploration.

Be careful exploring Tarren Mill. Guards are set to enemy. They have large aggro radius.  Guards by the towers and on the road are neutral and won’t attack you unless you attack them. At Southshore, everyone is friendly. You will recognize many NPCs there including Kel’Thuzad, Hercular, Mograine, Tirion Fordring, Taelan, and many others. View the screenshots below to recognize the children and adults.

Burning Crusade - Caverns of Time - To the Master’s Lair

Written by Medievaldragon on . Posted in Burning Crusade Story Arcs, WoW: Burning Crusade

To become attuned to the Caverns of Time, you must first talk to the Steward of Time … a bronze dragon you find at the gate of Caverns of Time. Follow up the quests after speaking to him until you get the quest: Old Hillsbrad. Below is a transcript of the dialogue with the Steward of Time.

Steward of Time: Beware mortal, beyond this hall lies dangers unheard of in your world.  Tread carefully.

TO THE MASTER’S LAIR

Steward of Time: Ah. We have been expecting you.  Please, allow one of my brothers to fly you down to the master.  He awaits you below.

Quest Objectives

Speak to Andormu at the Caverns of Time.

NOTE: You must be dismounted.  Talk to Steward of Time again, and a dragon is summoned. Enjoy the ride! A bronze dragon flies you into the Caverns of Time.

Andormu (Keepers of Time): We must prepare you for the battles that lie ahead …

TO THE MASTER’S LAIR (part 2)

Andormu (Keepers of Time): Greetings. Please follow the custodian.  She will make things a bit more … clear.

Quest Objectives

Andormu at the Caverns of Time has asked that you follow the Custodian of Time around the cavern.

Custodian of Time: Greetings.  I will guide you through the cavern.  Please try and keep up.  We do not know if the Caverns of Time have always been accessible to mortals.  Truly, it is impossible to tell as the Timeless One is in perpetual motion, changing our timeways as he sees fit.  What you see now may very well not exist tomorrow.  You may wake up yesterday and have no memory of this place.

It is strange, I know … Most mortals cannot actually comprehend what they see here, as often, what they see is not anchored within their own perception of reality. Follow me, please.

As custodians of time we watch over and care for Nozdormu’s realm.  The master is away at the moment, which means that attempts are being made to dramatically alter time.  The master never meddles in the affairs of mortals but instead corrects the alterations made to time by others.  He is reactionary in this regard.

For normal maintenance of time, the Keepers of Time are sufficient caretakers.  We are able to deal with most ordinary disturbances.  I speak of little things such as rogue mages changing something in the past to elevate their status or wealth in the present.

These tunnels that you see are called timeways.  They are infinite in number.  The ones that currently exist in your reality are what the master has deemed as “trouble spots”.  These trouble spots may differ completely in theme but they always share a cause.  That is, their existence is a result of the same temporal disturbance.  Remember that should you venture inside one …

This timeway is in great disarray!  We have agents inside right now attempting to restore order.  What little information I have indicates that Thrall’s freedom is in jeopardy.  A malevolent organization known as the Infinite Dragonflight is trying to prevent his escape.  I fear without outside assistance, all will be lost.  Follow me, please.

We have very little information on this timeway.  Sa’at has been dispatched and is currently inside.  The data we have gathered from his corresponence is that the Infinity Dragonflight are once again attempting to alter time.  Could it be that the opening of the Dark Portal is being targeted for sabotage?  Let us hope not …  Follow me, please.

This timeway is currently collapsing.  What that may hold for the past, present and future is currently unknown …  The timeways are currently ranked in order from lest catastrophic to most catastrophic.  Note that they are all classified as catastrophic, meaning that any single one of these timeways collapsing would mean that your world would end.  We only classify them in such a way so that the heroes and adventurers that are sent here know which timeway best suits their abilities.  Follow me, please.

All we know of this timeway is that it leads to Mount Hyjal.  The Infinite Dragonflight have gone to great lengths to prevent our involvement.  We know next to nothing, mortal.  Soridormi is currently attempting to break through the timeway’s defenses but has thus far been unsuccessful.  You might be our only hope of breaking through and resolving the conflict.

Our time is at an end.  I would wish you luck, if such a thing existed.

Andormu: Hopefully you now have a better understanding of what is expected of you.

Burning Crusade - Mag’har - the Uncorrupted Orcs of Nagrand

Written by Medievaldragon on . Posted in Burning Crusade Story Arcs, WoW: Burning Crusade

THE WARCHIEF’S MANDATE

Nazgrel: As you know, the warchief put his power behind this expedition for one reason. This is the world we came from. This is where our roots lie.

This journey means different things to orcs and blood elves. To them it’s a search for the promised land. To us it’s more like returning home.

Whoever made this axe is familiar with the old ways and we must contact them. This is too important for us to use ordinary tracking methods. Show the weapon to Far Seer Regulkut: she will know what to do.

Quest Objectives

Bring the Heavy Stone Axe to Far Seer Regulkut at Thrallmar in Hellfire Peninsula.

THE WARCHIEF’S MANDATE (part 2)

Far Seer Regulkut (Eyes of the Warchief): Well met. Your arrival in Thrallmar could not have occurred at a better time. The warchief is depending on us, since he cannot be here himself.

Tell me what you seek, so that I may help you find it.

I understand Nazgrel’s request priest. Say no more.

A SPIRIT GUIDE

Far Seer Regulkut (Eyes of the Warchief): Even our best tracking wolves’ senses can fail. The being you will call forth will find the person you seek, for they’ll be drawn not to their scent but their essence.

Quest Objectives

Use the Wolf Totem at the location where you found Krun Spinebreaker’s body and follow the Ancestral Spirit Wolf.

A SPIRIT GUIDE (Part 2)

Gorkan Bloodfist: You are lucky to be alive. Who are you to walk in here unannounced? I ordered my men to stay their hand only because Ryga sensed that the spirits were with you.

Speak freely, but choose your words wisely. We rarely trust strangers this close to the Citadel.

THE MAG’HAR

Gorkan Bloodfist: This news you bring from beyond the Dark Portal … you want us to believe the son of Durotan now rules over the lands beyond it … free from any demonic taint? And that now his people have returned to this world? I hope for your sake that this isn’t some manner of joke. What this means to my people … cannot be described. I must send word to Nagrand at once! Hellscream must hear about this.

Take this letter back to your leader in Thrallmar. Tell him the Mag’har welcome them!

Quest Objectives

Deliver the Letter from the Mag’har to Nazgrel at Thrallmar in Hellfire Peninsula.

THE MAG’HAR (Part 2)

Nazgrel: What do you bring us?

You’re certain of this? True orcs … here in Hellfire! This is big news.

We must inform the warchief at once.

MESSENGER TO THRALL

Nazgrel: The Warchief has been waiting for word of this ever since we set foot on Outland. Now you get the honor of giving him the news of the Mag’har yourself.

Go quickly. Take this letter with you: it bears my personal seal. There is nothing that Thrall wants to hear more than the message you bear.

Quest Objectives

Travel to Orgrimmar and give Thrall the Letter from Nazgrel.

MESSENGER TO THRALL (Part 2)

Thrall: You bring news from Outland? Speak at once!

(You watch Thrall’s jaw slacken as he begins to read the message from Nazgrel)

My people … we must reach them. We must reach Nagrand as soon as possible!

My people have survived in Outland … Unnoticed for years … Uncorrupted!

Eitrigg: Thrall! My lord … are you all right?

Thrall: I’ll be fine, Eitrigg. We must begin preparations … I need to go to Outland at once!

Eitrigg: With all due respect, Warchief. Our enemies would take advantage of your sudden absence if we don’t prepare properly.

Thrall: You are right, Eitrigg. The timing is unfavorable. Make sure our best ambassadors are sent as envoys to Hellscream.

Eitrigg: At once, sir! For the Horde!

Thrall: If he’s anything like his father, allying with the Mag’har will mark the dawn of a new age for the Horde.

ENVOY TO THE MAG’HAR

Thrall: I’d leave for Outland this very minute after hearing the news you brought. Important matters require my attention in Durotar, however.

I will arrange for a fitting tribute to be sent to the Mag’har immediately. I will send my most trusted diplomats as well. This will all take time … I need someone to represent us there right now.

I must place my trust on you. Go to the Mag’har Post in Hellfire and render whatever services you can to my kin. Do not fail me. Too much depends on this.

Quest Objectives

Thrall wants you to return to Gorkan Bloodfist at Mag’har Post in Hellfire Peninsula and offer him your services.

ENVOY TO THE MAG’HAR (Part 2)

Gorkan Bloodfist: It means very much to us that you come to aid us in our time of need. We’ll not easily forget you nor he who sends you.

You have our thanks.

NOTE: Investigating in Nagrand, you may find the uncorrupted orcs at Garadar. Make sure to get the flight point. There you will find Jorin Deadeye and Garrosh (Son of Hellscream). At the time of this article I am level 61. The quests are silver and unaccessible. We will update when more lore is revealed. Although unconfirmed at this time, I think Thrall has family here. There is a orc female named Matron Drakia. Thrall’s mother was named Drakka. Besides Matron Drakia is a woman named Greatmother Geyah. Remember this is unconfirmed.

Burning Crusade: Khadgar in Shattrath City

Written by Medievaldragon on . Posted in Burning Crusade Story Arcs, WoW: Burning Crusade

Lore fans that aren’t in the Closed Beta may be glad to find here a slight coverage of the current lore of Khadgar, who may be found by the Terrace of Light within Shattrath City.  The city can be found in between Nagrand and Terokkar regions.  If you are in the Hellfire Peninsula you should find an entrance to Terokkar on the southwest corner.

Shattrath is simply huge. It is a Noah’s Ark of refugees of all intelligent species who have fled from the Burning Legion and Illidan. The main reason the city has not been breached is that recently a Naaru arrived after detecting some Draenei and his power alone prevents any enemy attack. Shattrath City is referred to as “Sanctuary”.

At the center of the city is a round chamber named the Terrace of Light.  Here is a huge Naaru and Khadgar … surrounded by Aldor Draenei forces. The music composer really made this chamber a place you wish to stay at. The Naaru named A’dal doesn’t speak. It emits musical melody instead, similar to chimes. This place seems like a good spot to set your hearthstone. The Terrace of Light has six portals leading to major cities of Azeroth.

At first, Khadgar won’t talk to you.  To the northern gate of the Terrace of Light you will find a Haggard War Veteran.  He starts a quest titled: A’dal.

QUEST: A’DAL

Haggard War Veteran: Welcome to Shattrath City.  This might be the one place in all of Outland where you’ll find any semblance of safety.

A group of naaru known as Sha’tar drove the demons away from here.

If you’ve never met a naaru, you ought to see A’dal inside the Terrace of Light.  The leader of the Sha’tar is an awe-inspiring sight if I ever saw one.  Sure is a change of pace from anything else in this bleak land.

QUEST: A’DAL

(A soothing light fills you as you approach the naaru.  Slow musical chimes echo within your mind and, though a word is not uttered, you feel an assurance of safety.  You are welcome in Shattrath City.)

(The light that filled your senses as you approached A’dal intensifies as you address him.  Melodic chimes continue to ring within your head.)

(You are safe here)

NOTE: As soon as you finish the quest, Khadgar now has a yellow exclamation sign hovering above him.  You may now speak to Khadgar.

> I’ve heard your name spoken only in whispers, mage.  Who are you?

I am Khadgar, former apprentice to the fallen Guardian, Medivh.  I’m sure you’ve heard his name before.

It was I who discovered that Medivh had been possessed by the Evil One, Sargeras – and that he had opened the Dark Portal between this world and Azeroth. Though I honored my Master, I was forced to slay him and put his tortured soul to rest.

> Go on, please.

I fought alongside Lord Anduin Lothar as we drove the Horde from our lands on Azeroth.  As the heir of Medivh’s legacy, I could do no less.

When the call finally came to invade this grim world – and put and end to the orc’s evil forever – I stepped forward along with my friends Turalyon, Alleria, Danath and Kurdran.

> I See.

My comrades and I called ourselves the Sons of Lothar – in honor of the greatest, most selfless man we ever knew. We gave our all to defeat Ner’zhul and end his madness.

As this doomed world fell apart around us, we shattered the Dark Portal to prevent any further harm befalling our beloved Azeroth.

> What did you do then?

Trapped in this broken wasteland, we did our best to survive.  Over time we sensed that a new evil was closing in around us from the Twisting Nether.  More foul than the dark orcs – it was the Burning Legion itself that sought to take hold of this … Outland.

> What happened next?

While my comrades held the line against the enroaching darkness, I used my magic to reach out into the Great Dark Beyond.  There, I sensed beings of immense Light – of unfathomable purity.

It was A’dal and his naaru I had found.  It was nothing short of a … miracle.

> I see.

(Khadgar grins to himself)

I convinced A’dal and his brethren to return here with me.  I believe that only their power can drive the Legion from this universe.  But as you will no doubt find – their power must first live in our hearts.

To combat the darkness, we must become beacons of their eternal Light.

> There was something else I wanted to ask you.

ALLEGIANCE TO THE ALDOR

Are you certain of your choice?  The Aldor will welcome you as an ally, but the Scryers will not easily forgive your decision.

ISHANAH

Now that you’ve decided to side with the Aldor, you’d do well to introduce yourself to their leader.  You will find High Priestess Ishanah inside the Shrine of Unending Light.

Quest Objective

Speak to Ishanah inside the Shrine of Unending Light at the Aldor Rise in Shattrath City.

Performing quests for the Aldor will ccause your Scryers reputation level to decrease.

QUEST: CITY OF LIGHT

The Naaru are wise beyond our understanding.  I’ve learned more from A’dal in the last five months than all the years I spent in the libraries of Dalaran.

Do not burden A’dal with petty inquisitions.  That just might be the most powerful being you ever come face to face with.

You do not look familiar.  I suppose you want to learn about the city?

You’ll have to excuse me if I don’t give you a tour myself, but I’m a bit busy discussing strategy with A’dal.  Perhaps you’ll find a summoned servant acceptable in my stead?  Excellent!

Show our guest around Shattrath, will you?  Keep an eye out for pickpocketing in the Lower City.

Quest Objectives: Follow Khadgar’s servant listen to its story.  Return to Khadgar after completing this task.

Khadgar’s Servant: The Sha’tar, or “born from light” are the naaru that came to Outland to fight the demons of the Burning Legion.  They were drawn to the ruins of Shattrath City where a small remnant of the draenei priesthood conducted its rites inside a ruined temple on this very spot.

The priesthood, known as the Aldor, quickly regained its strength as word spread that the naaru had returned and reconstruction soon began.  The ruined temple is now used as an infirmary for injured refugees.

It wouldn’t be long, however, before the city came under attack once again.  This time, the attack came from Illidan’s armies.  A large regiment of blood elves had been sent by Illidan’s ally, Kael’thas Sunstrider, to lay waste to the city.

As the regiment of blood elves crossed this very bridge, the Aldor’s exarchs and vindicators lined up to defend the Terrace of Light.  But then the unexpected happened.

The blood elves laid down their weapons in front of the city’s defenders; their leader, a blood elf elder known as Voren’thal, stormed into the Terrace of Light and demanded to speak to A’dal.

As the naaru approached him, Voren’thal kneeled before him and uttered the following words:  “I’ve seen you in a vision, naaru.  My race’s only hope for survival lies with you.  My followers and I are here to serve you.”

The defection of Voren’thal and his followers was the largest loss ever incurred by Kael’s forces.  And these weren’t just any blood elves.  Many of the best and brightest amongst Kael’s scholars and magisters had been swayed by Voren’thal’s influence.

The naaru accepted the defectors, who would be known as the Scryers: their dwelling lies in the platform above.  Only those initiated with the Scryers are allowed there.

The Aldor are followers of the light and forgiveness and redemption are values they understand.  However, they found hard to forget the deeds of the blood elves while under Kael’s command.

Many of the priesthood had been slain by the same magisters who now vowed to serve the naaru.  They were not happy to share the city with their former enemies.  The Aldor’s most holy temple and its surrounding dwellings lie on the terrace above.  As a holy site, only the initiated are welcome inside.

The attacks against Shattrath continued, but the city did not fall, as you can see.  On the contrary, the naaru known as Xi’ri, led a successful incursion into Shadowmoon Valley – Illidan’s doorstep.

There he continues to wage war on Illidan with the assistance of the Aldor and the Scryers.  The two factions have not given up on their old feuds, though.  Such is their animosity that they vie for the honor of being sent to assist the naaru there.  Each day that decision is made here by A’dal.  The armies gather here to receive A’dal’s blessing before heading to Shadowmoon.

Khadgar should be ready to see you again.  Just remember that to serve the Sha’tar you will most likely have to ally with the Aldor or the Scryers.  And seeking the favor of one group will cause the other’s dislike.  Good luck, stranger, and welcome to Shattrath City.

Khadgar: I hope you learned a thing or two about Shattrath.  It might take some time for things to sink in.

You: So, how do you fit into all this?  How did you come to Shattrath?

Khadgar: There are other worlds, such as this one and such as Azeroth.  The battle between the legion and the naaru is waged there as well.  Some are won and some are lost.

It was in one such world where I met A’dal and convinced the Sha’tar that they’d best come here and in a hurry.  From the looks of it, they might’ve made it just in time to turn the tide.

Tower of Medivh—Myths of things to come

Written by Medievaldragon on . Posted in Burning Crusade Story Arcs, WoW: Burning Crusade

This is a story that has been explained a few times to those who have asked after they have seen Deadwind Pass, and the great tower of Karazhan that stands alone within it.

However, it is always welcome to tell the tale again for those who have not heard it yet. A dark tale. A grim tale. The story of a place of horrors.

Karazhan, within the Deadwind Pass, was not as it is today… even four years ago. A dark and evil presence has come to Karazhan and the Deadwind Pass, a presence that has cursed the very land, and brought the dead to life without aid of any Plagues. The only living things within the Pass are the giant carrion birds, like great shadows on the sky, and a very hardy tribe of Ogres that have no fear of even the Dead that walk in Karazhan. The Ogres, perhaps, even pay homage to whatever rules the Tower.

Karazhan rests at a nexus of ley energies that give the site of the tower incredible power. Magical power is augmented at this site, and that is why it was chosen by the last of the Guardians of Tirisfal to be his home. Or did Karazhan chose Medivh? It is hard to tell, with the strange energies that exist at that place.

Karazhan, for many years, has a power all its own. It could show those within it visions of the Future… or the Past… and of things that might or might not be. Prophecy was Karazhan’s power, and Medivh liked the power this afforded his studies.

Even then, however, Medivh was possessed. His mother, Aegwyn, was the one who fought and slew the body of the Dark Titan himself. No other mortal could ever have done this, and it is hard to imagine how Aegwyn even accomplished this feat… for Sargeras’ power was beyond measure in his full form. However, though his body died, it is much harder then that to kill a Titan.

The Dark Titan’s spirit enter Aegwyn, and into her very womb did he go. He waited there for the child that would eventually be conceived, and took possession of the boy. Medivh’s life up to his death was a constant struggle between himself and Sargeras.

Sargeras, the Dark Titan, overcame him time and time again.

Sargeras tried to make Medivh kill his own mother, but the will within Medivh refused, and he instead banished her to somewhere… no one knows. Perhaps far, far from this world entire. Wherever she went, she lives on… likely mourning for the son she lost.

It was by Sargeras’ command that Medivh created the Dark Portal and brought the Orcs forth onto Azeroth. To break the cycle and set himself free… this was the goal of both Medivh and Sargeras.

However, the Sword of Auduin Lothar found its mark in the heart of Medivh. This tale is told in much further detail in book, The Last Guardian.

Karazhan, as it stands now, is not as it was. When Medivh returned from Death as the Prophet, he absorbed from Karazhan all the powers of Prophecy that it once had. The tower was rendered inert, its prophetic might removed. He abandoned Karazhan then, having no further use for it.

However, someone else took over in his stead.

Karazhan remains a site of great and terrible power. A nexus of Ley Energies rivaled only by the now destroyed Sunwell. It is a place where Magic itself can come alive. The power of Prophecy is gone… but who knows what could fill the void the power left in its wake.

Many rumors persist about what has cursed the land, what killed and animated the townsfolk in the ruins of the village at Karazhan’s feet. It could have been a dark and powerful Lich in service to the Lich King… or it could be a sect of Dreadlords that escaped the culling after the second invasion of the Legion.

Or, like Medivh, Sargeras could also still be alive.

His soul, persistent as always, could have returned to the site of his years of plotting and experimentation. Sargeras could easily, even in Spirit, corrupt the land and take possession of Karazhan. He is a TITAN, as near to a GOD as anything that currently walks the world. His body, sans his eye, may be entombed in the islands off the coast of Kalimdor… but his Spirit might still linger, and be doing terrible things within the now empty halls of Karazhan.

It could be that by removing the power of Prophecy from Karazhan, Medivh opened the door for Sargeras to gain full control of the power of Karazhan that remained. Why did Medivh not foresee this?

Perhaps he did. Perhaps he tried to go to Karazhan to stop this after Archimonde’s destruction. Perhaps Medivh is locked up in his former home, held by the being that possessed him for so many years.

Or perhaps Medivh’s time on this earth ended when Archimonde died… and he could to nothing but pass on, though Sargeras remained.

Many dark stories flow from Karazhan of terrible events and dark creatures. Dark Riders have been seen as far as Duskwood, and an artifact known as the Scythe of Elune was claimed by them and taken back to the tower. The artifact possesses the power to summon the Worgen to this world… and if you have studied anything about the Worgen, you know they to be perfect allies for Sargeras. This artifact has also maintained the unnatural darkness over Duskwood for many, many months… if Sargeras possesses this item… there is no telling what harm he might do with it.

There is a new theory that has come to light. A theory that has caught many ears and hearts, and filled minds with horror and fear. If it is not the Ghost of Sargeras within Karazhan, then it could be this being that all members of the Alliance learned to fear during the second war. A being that was one of the original Orcish Death Knights under the service of Gul’dan. A being that was a Warlock and Necromancer of TERRIBLE power.

His name was Teron Gorefiend.

Rumors of a pale horse riding from the Dark Portal spread across the land. Rumors that upon that horse was a shrouded rider, and that horse was as dead as stone. And, even the Demons quailed at its passage.

Within that shroud was a being that commanded the Orcish Death Knights during the Second War… within that shroud is a being who very well COULD awaken the dead from their long slumber.

A mind of cunning and magic as keen as Medivh’s is in that shrouded cowl. He knew of Karazhan and Medivh. He was likely one of Gul’dan’s party who met with Medivh to seal the deal and help in opening the Dark Portal. His knowledge of the undead would rival the Lich King’s.

He also bears no love for Ner’zhul, wanting his own dominion and his own glory. And his origins do not originate from the Plague that made Undead in the rest of the world. The Lich King holds no sway over him or anything made by him… undead or otherwise.

He was never accounted for by the forces that raided Draenor. No record of his death or destruction was ever found. It is very possible he could have survived the sundering of Draenor.

Teron Gorefiend could have rode into the abandoned Karazhan… and taken over when Medivh left off.

Think of him sitting upon his skeletal horse, and in his hand the Scythe of Elune, and around him legions of howling Worgen.

Such is the stuff of Nightmare.

Other then these theories, Karazhan remains a mystery still. All attempts to enter it have failed. The dead bar the way with power as great as the strongest of Adventurers.

When Karazhan does open… be it Scourge or Demon, Teron Gorefiend or Sargeras himself within it… one thing is for certain…

No one will be safe from what lies inside the Cursed Tower of the Magus Medivh, Karazhan.
