You: Why are the Darkspear in rebellion against Garrosh?
(Vol’jin twists his face into a scowl.)
Vol’jin: Ya wouldn’t understand. What’s de Horde ta ya, (race)? Hm? Diseased? Alien? Betrayers? Demon-blooded? Beasts? I know what ya say ’bout us.
I’ll tell ya what the Horde is. De Horde dat me an’ Thrall built. It be a family. When de whole world try ta put us down, de family come an’ pick us back up.
Hellscream, he don’t see family. Ain’t never had one.
You: What about Hellscream? What does the Horde mean to him?
Vol’jin: For him, Horde be about orcs, an’ buildin’ up orc power. Like he just come through de portal. Anyone stand in his way, anyone tink any diff’rent, he shut ’em up.
(Vol’jin runs his three-fingered hand across his scar.)
He like an angry dog. Oh, I fight next to Hellscream in battle, sure. But put him in charge? Ya askin’ for trouble. He pick his favorites, start his war, shove me bruddahs aside… He don’t tink he need nobody else. Well, he wrong.
He gonna learn: ya never cross family.
You: Why should we help you? What if we kept the Barrens supplies for ourselves?
(Vol’jin cackles, the stench of his hot breath reeking in your nostrils.)
Vol’jin: Oh, ya got anudda plan? I got anudda plan, too. I let ya siege Orgrimmar on ya own. See how far ya get. An’ once da city be filled wit’ corpses, den me shadow hunters come in, we mop up what left, kill Kor’kron an’ Alliance alike. Give ya dead ta Sylvanas. Hmm! I save a lot a Darkspear lives wit’ dis plan!
Mmnn? You don’t like? Then, we stay wit’ da first plan. We work together.
We don’t even have ta like each other.
You: (Call his bluff) Why don’t WE wait until YOU attack Orgrimmar, and then mop up YOUR dead?
(Vol’jin sees his opportunity slipping away. He holds up his hands.)
Vol’jin: Wait now, (race)! Orgrimmar be a fortress. My people, we ain’t gonna crack dat nut on our own. How long we gonna last out here? Days? Weeks? Vol’jin can’t say.
You keep da supplies comin’, an’ I promise, more Kor’kron gonna die. Before ya troops even land! The blood bein’ split ain’t even ya own! Surely dat be worth a few crates of meat?
Vol’jin: Ya want we work together on dis, ya gotta earn me trust.
In Northern Barrens, de Kor’kron be massin’ for war. Hellscream’s goons be stockpilin’ lumber, oil, stone, an’ meat. Supplies de Darkspear want ta use against’ ‘im.
Go to de Barrens. Kill de Kor’kron. Bring me dem supplies! Fight dem wherever dey spring up, escort supply caravans, group up ta take down de dangerous ones. Whatever ya gotta do.
The World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria Patch 5.3 adds new content to the progressive Garrosh Hellscream storyline. The Landfall (Patch 5.1) confrontation between the Alliance and the Horde at the Krasarang Wilds’ shore is over, and the Thunder King has been defeated.
What’s next? Well, Patch 5.3: Escalation is the intermediate content prior to engaging Garrosh Hellscream as the final boss of Mists of Pandaria.
The Horde and the Alliance are preparing their path toward Orgrimmar through the Barrens and Durotar.
Note: Over the next weeks, I’ll be updating this page with the quests text, NPC dialogues, images and videos. This will serve as a lore repository for those who rushed through the quests without reading, or for those who unsubscribed to World of Warcraft months ago, and wish to know what’s new. Who knows — what you see in this archive might bring you back to World of Warcraft.
Patch 5.3 Intro – Horde version
When players approach Sunwalker Dezco and Taran Zhu at the Golden Terrace of the Shrine of Two Moons capital in the Vale of Eternal Blossoms, we see a conversation between both characters concerning Garrosh and the actions of the Horde.
Taran Zhu: Tauren! What have your people done? You have dredged open a scar within our sacred Vale!
Sunwalker Dezco: Lord Zhu, please understand – the orc “Warchief” who ordered the deed no longer speaks for the whole of the Horde. Many voices are rising up against him.
Taran Zhu: Your politics are no concern of mine. Your Horde has disrespected the sanctity of this place. You are no longer welcome here – leave at once!
Sunwalker Dezco: Give us time, Lord Zhu. Give us the opportunity to bring Hellscream to justice.
Taran Zhu: Sunwalker, I respect your people. You have aided us in our campaign against the Sha, and the Thunder King. Otherwise, I would’ve already ordered the Shado-Pan to purge this entire shrine. But my patience is at an end. The Horde must leave.
Sunwalker Dezco: Please. Give us time to make this right.
Taran Zhu: Very well. You have until season’s end. No longer. We pandaren are no strangers to dealing with tyrants. The coming battle will try your souls. May the celestials guide your actions.

The Alliance version of Patch 5.3 Escalation is a bit shorter. Both factions share the same scenarios, the same first quest, and the same Battlefield: Barrens quests. Some quests are unique to the Alliance players as seen below.
