Update: Gamespot writer Rod Breslau contacted me today to inform he interviewed Chris Sigaty (production director) to talk about StarCraft II Spawning.

Blizzard Entertainment has officially announced the spawning feature for StarCraft II. Community Manager Cloaken explains how StarCraft II Spawning works.

Basically, anyone with a legitimate copy of StarCraft II can invite a friend to play. The friend might have the StarCraft II Starter Edition and for as long as he is in your party he is able to play StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty full version and StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm.

A friend can play free for as long as he is part of the spawning pool party.

Spawned players can access:

  • All vs A.I. Modes including team games
  • Ranked and Unranked team ladder matches
  • All custom game maps
  • The complete arcade

There are features that spawned players don’t have access too, however:

  • Single-player campaign
  • Social features (clans/groups)
  • All three races

The interesting part is that once your friend plays in spawning mode, he gets a “Get the Full Game” upgrade now button. No further download is necessary. The full game is unlocked right there.

Spawning also works With wings of Liberty. You can spawn a friend with Wings of Liberty to test Heart of the Swarm.

Spawn up to 14 people at a time. 25% bonus experience for Swarm owners when playing with friends. Read Cloaken’s article.
