Eldorian: When I read on the site earlier this week that Richard Knaak was coming to Kansas City this weekend I messaged MedievalDragon. “Do you want me to go meet Richard Knaak and interview him for the website?” I asked. He replies “Why, do you live nearby?”. “Only like 3 blocks from the mall he’s signing at Saturday!”.
Seriously though, nothing exciting ever happens in Kansas City – especially if it has to do with video games or fantasy books. So when I found that one of the most famous authors in the Warcraft and Diablo universe would be in town signing books I had to find out if Blizzplanet could get an interview during the signing – and we did! I met with Mr. Knaak around 2 P. M. after the initial rush of his fans bringing in bags of books for him to sign and to talk to him.
This was my first time ever meeting him and he’s a real down to earth and extremely nice guy. In this interview we discuss his Dragonrealm books (where he first got into the published world), talk about some DragonLance, and then delve into some good old fashioned Warcraft questions.
I’ll be honest, I walked in not knowing a lot about his stories or his books, I came out of this interview wanting to read everything this man writes. He definitely made at least 1 fan in this process and hoping after this interview he’ll have a few more. Thanks again Richard!
Medievaldragon: Within a few days notice, Richard and Jaime (Pocket Books) quickly informed us they welcomed the interview. Eldorian asked questions about Warcraft Legends Vol. 5 [TOKYOPOP] which contains a story by Richard A. Knaak, titled: NIGHTMARES.
This story serves as a prequel to what happens in the upcoming pocket books novel WORLD OF WARCRAFT: STORMRAGE. It’s a good idea to pick up Tokyopop’s Warcraft Legends Vol. 5 to learn exactly what’s going on in the Emerald Dream and how that’s affecting our Horde and Alliance heroes such as King Magni, Thrall, and Jaina Proudmoore.
He talks a bit about WARCRAFT: DRAGONS OF OUTLAND with Jorad Mace and Tyri the blue dragon [from the pages of Warcraft: The Sunwell Trilogy].
This time around we wanted to ask questions about his projects outside Blizzard Entertainment’s franchises, to highlight some of his other works. If you are interested, his current works: Legends of the Dragonrealm (on sale now, reprints the three books of Dragonrealm written by Richard A. Knaak) and Beastmaster: Myth (due December 01, 2009—based on the film’s fantasy setting with actor Marc Singer).
Check out other recent Blizzcon 2009 interviews with Christie Golden and Richard A. Knaak. Richard A. Knaak talked about WORLD OF WARCRAFT: STORMRAGE in the following interview. Christie talked about her story titled A WARRIOR MADE about Thrall’s mother [Draka] in the pages of WARCRAFT LEGENDS VOL. 5 and her untitled-yet-to-be-revealed Warcraft trilogy novel [a World of Warcraft: Cataclysm expansion tie-in] … watch the video interview.
