The Echo of Baine is one of the four random boss encounters found in the Caverns of Time: End Time dungeon. Only two out of four possible bosses will spawn per dungeon run, with Murozond being the exception (Murozond always spawn as the last boss).

Echo of Baine can be a challenging boss for newcomers, but pretty easy when players get used to the mechanics of this encounter.

Lore

Enraged by his failure to protect the world and, most importantly, the Horde, this time-ravaged shade of Baine Bloodhoof lingers within the ruins of the Obsidian Dragonshrine. Although he’s still as powerful as the tauren high chieftain from the present, within this shattered future Azeroth, this guilt-ridden echo is little more than a discordant vessel of unquenchable malice and anger.

Abilities

Molten Axe: The Echo of Baine’s Axe ignites for 10 sec. when he comes into contact with lava. The fiery axe causes melee attacks to inflict an additional 10000 Fire damage.

Pulverize: The Echo of Baine slams the ground with his totem, inflicting 30000 Physical damage to enemies within 15 yards and destroying the nearby platform.

Throw Totem: The Echo of Baine throws his totem at a random player, inflicting 60000 Physical damage and knocking them back. The totem then persists on the ground at the target’s location for 20 sec.

Strategy

There are four land masses or platforms floating in a pool of magma at the Obsidian dragonshrine. We’ll call the platform where Baine is as the north platform. It’s recommended to have the tank and the DPS fighting Echo of Baine on the edge of the north platform, standing near the west platform. All ranged casters and the healer must stand on the west platform. Make sure to stay within healing range if you are melee.

At some point, Echo of Baine will leap across to the west platform and cast Pulverize. This will shatter the platform and sink players into the lava.

All players who were on the west platform must swim quickly to the north platform.

The tank should kite Echo of Baine toward the southeastern edge of the north platform. The tank’s back most face toward the eastern platform — this is to make Echo of Baine knock you back into the eastern platform so you remain within healing range. Just swim back to the north platform if you get knockback.

All casters and the healer: move to that southeastern area of the north platform, too. When Baine casts pulverize on the north platform, all players will have a better chance at swimming to the eastern platform without much damage because of how close you were. The further away, the more damage taken while swimming through the lava to the next platform. Thus, it’s smart to stand next to the edge closer to the next platform in advance.

Throughout the encounter, Echo of Baine will cast Throw Totem. The totem will land on a player causing damage. However, the players must be alert when this happen. Players can click the totem, and a green circle can be drawn on the ground to select where you wish to throw the totem. Throw it on Echo of Baine to stun him and cause damage equal to 5% of his total health.

When Echo of Baine gets into the lava after Pulverize, the lava grants his axe a buff named Molten Axe. It lasts 10 sec, and makes his melee attacks increase with an additional 10000 Fire damage. To counter this, and for the tank to survive and/or make things easier for the healer — it’s recommended to kite him a bit along the platform to waste as many seconds as possible of his 10 sec buff.

Classes Skills

A Hunter might be able to lower his speed with an ice trap near the edge of the platform for when Echo of Baine swims back after the tank.

A Warlock may cast Curse of Exhaution (Talent) to slow down Echo of Baine’s movement speed to prevent him from reaching the tank and to exhaust his 10 sec buff: Molten Axe. The Curse of Weakness will lower his melee damage by 10%. Make sure to refresh it after 2 minutes.

Retribution Paladins might be able to slow him down some. (Note: Unless he is immune, judgment of Seal of Justice might slow him down a bit as soon as he casts Pulverize, so it takes him longer to reach the tank to spend his 10 sec buff). All paladins should use Resistance Aura (This might reduce the fire damage of Echo of Baine’s Molten Axe down to 8500 Fire damage from 10000).

Note: Let us know if your class can slow him down, or knock him back, or if he’s immune.
